Over the next few weeks I'm out of my cast and have been working with Danger every day by lunging him and doing free jumping.
"Ok Danger" I say after a week of being out of my cast, "let's get you saddled up." I tack him up and he stands very politely. I then lunge him for a few minutes to get his energy out.
After a good 15 minutes or so I get on while still in the round pen and start to walk. He does really well and so I start the trot. He dose a small kick of his leg then is calm. I do this for about 5 minutes. Now it was time for the real test. Cantering.
I give him a push and sit down and wait to go flying off.
Im still on after 5 minutes and so I decided to take it up and go to the arena."Ok." I take a deep breath and squeeze Danger forward. I walk around a few time then start trotting and I'm a bit scared of flying off again. I feel him give a small buck but then nothing else so I canter and have no problem.
"Ok boy"I say "let's try a jump." There was already a small jump set up from when I would lunge him over jumps so I trot to that one.
I bounce in my post as I direct Danger towards the jump. We go over it but I don't feel much bc the jump is way smaller then him. I raise it to about a 12 inch straight and hop back on a trot it. Then I feel confident enough to go over it at a canter after going over it a few more times. "One, two, one, two" I count under my breath as we head towards the jump. And the base I give a small kiss and we are flying,
