After many jokes, laughter and teasing, the couple were finally done with dinner and Lucas led Maya up to an abandoned building. It was rather torn down, the paint peeling at the sides and looked gloomy, depressing, haunted, even. But nevertheless, to Maya and Lucas, it was special. It was the place where they would go to when they were troubled during high school. It was their place.
At the top of the building, Maya and Lucas walked to the edge. Maya smiled as memories of the place flashed before her eyes, the New York City wind rushing through her hair as she admired the city lights and its city line. Little did she know what Lucas was going to do next.
After a few moments of silence, Maya broke it. "Well, what are we doing here Sundance?"
"To do something special."
"And what would that be?"
Lucas chuckled as he pulled out a box in his pocket. It was small and velvet coloured. As Maya turned to him, he got down on one knee, opening up the box, revealing a simple, small, but beautiful diamond ring, causing Maya to gasp.
"Maya, everything im going to say comes from the heart. Every since we met in the subway, i knew i liked you, that we would be friends. It was my honour to become your best friend, and to be a part of you, Riley and Farkle, to have your company everyday in school. You dont know how happy i was when we went on our first date after Texas, even though that turned out to be a disaster. When i ran away from you guys in high school, i really didnt want to, i missed you everyday. Im so happy god led us together again, and so we could be a happy family with Luke and Lilly. But for that to happen, i think we need to take our next step in life. So, Maya Penelope Hart, will you give me the honour to marry you?"
Maya smiled till her cheekbones ached, happy tears in her eyes, she put out her hand, allowing an ecstatic Lucas to slip the ring on. "That was cheesy, Huckleberry." She laughed.
"I know" He grinned, standing up, leaning in to Maya, "But it was all from the heart."
Maya leaned in too, and sparks flew between the couple, and it felt like only they mattered in the world. Even when they finally pulled apart for air, they didnt stop smiling, all the way back home.
