"What the fu-"
"Mommy!"
Maya got interrupted by Luke as she walked into the Minkus household with the key they had given her when they first moved in.
"Hey, sweetie! I missed you! Did you have fun at school?" Maya asked, bending down to cuddle her son as he nodded his head, grinning from cheek to cheek.
Then, found Lucas and Lilly who where sitting on the couch nearby with Farkle and 6 year old Isobel, while Luke hurried over to them. Lilly and Luke were colouring on a book with Isobel and Farkle and Lucas were casually chatting. Raising an eyebrow, Maya walked over to Riley, who was in the kitchen.
"Explain huckleberry and his daughter" Maya ordered, gesturing to them while popping a cherry tomato, which Riley was using, into her mouth.
"Well, i invited them over for dinner. Thought we could catch up."
"Riles, why did you do that? You knew it would be awkward."
"Aw come on. It'll be fine. Look how happy the kids are. Luke and Lilly really seem to get along. He split his cookie with her today, you know. You've raised a fine young gentleman."
"Heh," Maya said casually yet dimissively, though her tone screamed disbelief at Riley's first statement. She didnt pursue it anymore.

As dinner was ready, Riley put a few slices of pizza and a little spaghetti on 3 kid plates before setting them at the coffee table so the kids could eat by themselves and the adults could have privacy.
"So... Lucas. We havent heard from you in a while. Care to explain?" Riley started
"Well," Lucas answered, nervously scratching the back of his head. " Its pretty self explanatory. As you remember Erin Flanders, after high school, i moved back to Texas with her and we got married after a while. We had three children, Lilliana, who we know as Lilly, and a set of fraternal twins, a boy and a girl. Their names were Evan and Ella."
"Wait. Were?" Farkle implored, making Lucas look down at his food with a sad expression on his face.
"The three of them passed away in a car accident. It was all my fault, i was pressuring her to hurry."
"Im sorry man." Farkle added with a pat on Lucas's back while Riley and Maya silently muttered their apologies.
"Its fine," Lucas assured, giving them a sad smile. "Im over it."
