CHAPTER 65: FINAL DECEPTION

How do you like my wine cellar?

 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"You're a liar… YOU'RE A GODDAMN LIAR!" Kosuke collapsed to the floor as Yanagisawa Gendou pointed a gun towards him, letting the muzzle touch his forehead. "How could you be him all these times? HOW COULD YOU FOOL ALL OF US ALL THESE YEARS? It doesn't make sense!"

"Eight minutes, forty five seconds," Gendou flashed a sarcastic smile, glancing over the time-bomb. "You have that amount of time to ask your questions, Kosuke. I'm in the mood to give you a detailed explanation."

"You can't do this! This should be a big heap of lies!" Kosuke was in denial. "I thought you were helping me… I TRUSTED YOU!"

"Look how easy it was," Gendou said. "I have ALL the Vaults back in my possession. You even reprogrammed the Spider Web and the Black Widow Hacking Programs to merge them! Now, I acquired both programs without a drop of sweat. Thanks to you, I got hold of the precious Silver Disk too. I have studied the special weapons Yoshida Akira designed. I can now produce and use them in the Spectra. The affiliates of the Silver Crescent Gang, the Golden Crescent Gang, even the Japanese military – they'll all be working FOR me. I was helping you because I was using you."

"But you can't use your own SON!"

"My own son? HA!" Gendou laughed mockingly. "You're mistaken, Kosuke. I'm not your father."

"Then WHO IS MY FATHER?"

"Him,” he replied. “Yamazaki Daisuke."

"What?"

"Don't you ever wonder why he drastically changed?" Gendou said as-a-matter-of-factly. "He was a strict dad – a man of few words yet reputable and trusted by many. He helped many because he was such a good lawyer. He was a good man, and that's why you were so proud of him back in high school. But one day, he revealed himself to be the leader of a grand scale mafia. Then, you hated him."

A wicked smile formed on Gendou's lips, "Ah, that means I acted well enough that day. I got exactly the response I wanted. Yes, I wanted you to HATE your father! It also helped a lot that he was gaining popularity at that time. He was appointed as the prime minister because the Diet trusted him so much. How I enjoyed stealing his identity! Power… revenge? I got them both thanks to you and him. All I had to do was threaten him – that I’d kill his only son had he not remain silent."

"What you're saying are lies! That's not true!" Kosuke did not seem convinced, although Gendou's words started to make him tremble from head to foot.

"Seven minutes, fifty eight seconds," Gendou reminded them of their impending death. "Do you have any more questions before you die?"

"My mother…" Kosuke asked. "Who is my mother?"

"I've brought you to where she rests before," Gendou answered indirectly. "Any more questions?"

"Lily Akiyama? Then, are you saying that my mother and Yamazaki Daisuke had a relationship? But I thought…" Kosuke's eyes widened. "Then, WHAT ABOUT THE TALE OF THE EMPEROR AND THE EMPRESS?"

"That's why it's called a 'tale'," Gendou grinned. "It doesn't have to be true, does it?"

"Is that why you hated my father?" Kosuke connected the revelations to make a hypothesis. "Because mother loved him and not you?"

Gendou suddenly fell silent.

"You can't answer? That's it, huh?" Kosuke clenched his fists. He stood up and glared at Gendou threateningly. "I had enough of these lies."
