Karma wasn't given a chance to make good of his promise to continue our activities. Once we got back to the safe house Kayano was up and changed and I could see she was posed to flee, thinking that the worst had happened. When she saw me, her face broke out in a relieved smile and she swooped me up in a tight hug, wincing as her wound was stretched.

"Get back to bed," I scolded.

She smiled at me, used to my mothering and noticed the blood stain on my shirt.

"Your hurt! What happened?"

I waved away her worries.

"Nothing to worry about, I just got a bit excited. Their boss has accepted us both. I passed some sort of test and we are both safe. At least from his group," I added, thinking of Takaoka and the men who had hunted down Kayano.

"We will all report to Sensei on Friday."

She nodded at Karma's words and then grabbed my hand.

"Let me see to that though."

I pulled my hand out and shook her head. I couldn't let her see the marks that Karama had left on me! Knowing why I was so stressed Karma had a smirk on his face and I glared at him which caused him to only smile even wider.

"I have already cleaned it."

Karma said, his eyes sparkling with mirth as he stared at my pink cheeks.

"In fact, I should finish what I started at the hotel."

He went to put his arm around me when a buzzing phone interrupted him. He fished his phone out of his pocket and I felt a little disappointed when I saw his face turn serious. He hung up and looked at me longingly.

"Work?"

"Sort of. It was someone who has been helping me find a new place for us to stay."

"We can't stay here?"

"No. This is only a safe house for a few days rest at most. We need to keep it open for other people. I have to go and have a look at a couple apartments for us. Stay here, I will be back soon."

He gave me a chaste kiss in front of Kayano's watchful eyes before heading back out the door. When the door closed she looked me over with a knowing look.

"Do you want me to actually disinfect that?"

I flushed red, I guess my acting had not been as good as I thought.

"No, I am going for a shower."

I marched off, ignoring the smile on her face and closed the bathroom door behind me. When I stripped off my shirt and looked at my chest in the mirror I was glad that I had told Kayano that I would take care of it. Red marks littered my chest and my nipples were still quite hard and red. Shaking my head at Karama's, appetite, I poked the wound above my heart and a small dribble of blood ran down. It wasn't bad, I would be able to get away with just a gauze patch, no stitches. My mother had given me worse. I stepped in the shower and thought of where she was right now. She had sold me, for a fair bit of money from what I had gathered and if she had she was probably living it up at the gambling dens or even a casino. I wondered if she had even gone back to our apartment. I remembered that Karma had said she had sold the apartment. What had happened to my belongings? I didn't have a lot but I cherished the few things that I did. Maybe I could ask the owner. Knowing my mother, she wouldn't have cared about anything as long as she had her money. I felt tears mixing with the water running down my face and sniffed.

My own mother had sold me.

The thought was like a blade to the heart. I had known she was unstable but she was my family. So much had happened that I hadn't really had the time to process that betrayal. I don't know what I would do if I ever saw her again. I knew that a normal person would want to run off and confront or at least see her but I was content if I never saw her again. I looked down at my arms to see the faded pink cuts on my arm from when she had last hurt me. When they finally healed would I even think of her at all?
