Chapter Two
The hat
The next day, I decided I'd go for a walk in the park. I wasn't talking to Ryan. I decided that I'd call him later see if he'd be ready to apologize. My mom left earlier to meet 'a friend.' Whatever that meant.
I put on a light pink sun dress, black sandals, and a black sun hat. I put dark shades over my eyes. I looked nice.
I grabbed my Michael Kors purse. I walked outside of my momma's condo. The sun was shining brightly, and you could hear the birds chirping. The streets were busy and crowded. It was a beautiful day. I made my across the street to the bridge. The wind started to blow and my hat flew off. Shit. My hair was flying everywhere. My hat glided with the wind until a man stopped it and picked it up. He brought it to me.
"Thank you so much sir." I thanked him and started to walk away.
"Wait." he stopped me. "I didn't get a name."
I looked at him and smiled. "What you need a name for?"
He licked his lips. " Maybe I want to get to know you. You look beautiful."
This dude was hella sexy. But I figured he'd probably be a dealer or something with all those tattoos on his arms. Both of his arms were fully tatted, like a sleeve. He was about 6'3 with caramel skin and black, curly hair. He had small, pink lips, gray eyes, and pretty, white teeth. Damn. He he had to be mixed with something.
I blushed. "What's your name?"
"Jeremiah Luela." he said. "What's yours?"
"Kristie Johnson."
"Nice to meet you Kristie. Where were you headed?"
I shouldn't have been talking to the guy. But hell, whatever!
"Just enjoying this nice weather." I said.
"It is nice. Wanna get some ice cream or sum?" Jeremiah licked his lips. Lawd.
I nodded.
We walked towards the white man with the ice cream stand. We both got vanilla ice cream.
We walked down to the park and sat on the bench.
"So, what do you do?" Jeremiah asked. He licked his ice cream.
Jeremiah dressed like a white boy. He had on Sperry's with no socks, cargo shorts, and a black Ralph Lauren shirt. Damn, I couldn't get over how fine he was.
"I'm a college student. I'm studying to become a RN." I told him.
"That's what's up. You like 19 ain't it?"
"20."
"Oh...big girl." he smiled. "I'm 23."
"What are you? Like a drug dealer or something?" I blurted out. I didn't mean to say it like that.
Jeremiah laughed. "Hell naw. You judging me?"
I shook my head no. I was so embarrassed I assumed.
"Well, I'm not a drug dealer. I'm a C.E.O."
Wow, a C.E.O. They make money, tons of it. At least $50, 000 an hour. He just didn't look like the type. I was impressed. Really, I was
"Wow, I'm impressed." I said.
"I had to take over the business. Luela incorporated. Don't be so quick to judge Kristie." Jeremiah sucked his teeth.
I looked down at my feet, ashamed.
"You ain't got to look like det. I'm not offended ma." Jeremiah scooted me closer to him.
"I do have a boyfriend." I told him.
"And? He ain't doing something right if you here with me. So, what is it?"
He was right. But I did love Ryan. It felt so wrong, but it felt right.
My phone rung in my purse. Saved by the bell. I took it out, Kendrick.
"What's up." I answered.
"Yo sis, where you at?" Kendrick asked.
"I'm at the park. What's up?"
"I need you at the studio."
"I'll be there." I hung up.
"I have to go. My brother needs me." I told Jeremiah.
"Can I have your number?" Jeremiah asked. "I want to see you again, very soon."
"How you know I want to see you again?" I smiled.
I did want to see Jeremiah again. I believe I liked him, already. Sexy thang!
He smack his lips. "You don't?"
I smiled at him. I wrote my number down on a piece of paper and gave it to him.
"See you around Jeremiah."
"You sho' will." Jeremiah said. "Give me a hug."
I gave Jeremiah a tight hug and started to walk away. I could feel him staring at me. I smiled to myself.
When I made it to Kendrick's studio, he was setting up a background.
"What's up beautiful." Kendrick strolled over to me and gave me a hug.
Kendrick is tall and buff. He's light skinned with hazel eyes and long, black hair. He always have it pulled back in a ponytail, like Lloyd. My brother is handsome.
"Hey hun. What you need?" I asked. I sat my purse down in a chair.
"A'ight. I have no clue with this background. I need you to change it." he pointed.
"I got you."
I started to rearrange the furniture in a nice way. I took me a while to get it, but I got it. Perfect.
I couldn't get Jeremiah off my mind for nothing in the world. I wonder what he wanted from me. I know a lot of ladies hit on him. Who wouldn't want a rich, sexy man? I didn't know much about him. He could be a total ass, but then again, he could be different.
My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of my phone ringing. It was Ryan.
"Hello." I answered, finally.
"I'm sorry Kristie." Ryan sighed.
Me and Ryan made up, as usual. It was still bittersweet at that moment.
