He spearheads the brave hearts

they rein the tyrant's bloody reign

of intolerant religion

cut-throat Wazir Khan lost his head

Bandha Bahadur kept his heart

his religion embraced all

to the last unbowed

May 14, 1710- Sirhind Fateh Diwas (Victory Day) is observed to commemorate victory of Banda Singh Bahadur over Wazir Khan the Mughal governor who had bricked alive the 7 and 9 year old sons of Guru Gobind Singh for refusing to convert to Islam. Banda Singh gave up his ascetic life to become a Sikh warrior, to protect the defenceless men, women and children - many Hindus who endured not only the inhumane reign of terror unleashed by Muslim rulers but also exploitation by the feudal landlords, the zamidars.

Banda Singh successfully mobilised the people against the tryranny, until he and his young sons were finally captured by the Mughals and tortured to death.
