Ch. 31
I walk down the hallway of the Kappa house with my keys and phone in hand. I make my way down the stairs and out into the winter cold. Two steps out of the house I see Israel who's coming towards me. "Wassup," he says dapping me wearing his work uniform meaning he just got off. "Where you goin'?
"Lunch witta friend," I say being as vague as possible. I didn't need him pillow talking to Nubia about what I'm doing for her to tell Zipporah. I haven't spoken to or seen Zi in a week and I wanted to keep it that way. At this point I didn't even know if I wanted to still be with her.
"Friend?" Israel asks arching a brow. "Friend who?" He crosses his arms over his chest raising his right hand to stroke his facial hair.
"A friend from back when I lived in Virginia. Her name is Khadijah," I say casually.
"Khadijah? Why does that name sound familiar?" He asks pulling his chin hair like he's thinking looking like an old ass man.
"I don't know. A lot of black girls have that name. I doubt you know her. Look I gotta go. I'll be back later," I say walking around him.
"Bring me back some food!" He yells from behind me. I wave him off walking to my car. I get in my Lexus then pull off leaving. I drive to H Street wear I'm supposed to be meeting her at. When I get there Khadijah and I meet up outside of the restaurant we're going to. We go inside and a waiter shows us to a table as we sit. She sits across from taking her jacket off then we order drinks.
When the waiter leaves us to look over the menu Khadi says, "I'm paying, so get what you want."
I look over the top of my menu at her. "Paying for who? You're not paying for me. Now, if you wanna pay for yourself, that's fine even though I was gonna pay for both of us, but I'm not letting you pay for mine."
"D'Anthony, you know better than anybody else. I have no problem when it comes to finding ways to make money. I don't know what other little girls you've gone out to lunch with, but I invited you, so I pay. A friend can't pay for a friend's meal? Plus, you paid last time,"
