Like usual on a Saturday afternoon for the past couple of months I'm at my internship. The only difference is that today is the last day of the program. I'm a couple of weeks away from the end of spring semester and graduating. It was starting to settle in that I'm about to be dropped off into the real world after spending pretty much my whole life in school.

After making a cup of coffee for the man heading the internship program I make my way to his office. This internship made me realize I definitely don't want to be working for someone else. At least not for the rest of my life. I've pretty much been an errand boy. I've learned some things working at this small architect firm while gaining some experience, so that's a plus. I made some connections and hopefully that will result in a good-paying job once I graduate. I have to start somewhere before starting my own firm.

I knock on the door of his office and when I hear him say to come in I turn the knob and walk in. "Here ya go, sir," I say putting on my work smile. Everyone has one because 9 times out of ten you don't like the people you work for or with.

"Thank you," he says grabbing the cup of coffee. I turn about to leave until he says, "Where are you going? I need to talk to you. Have a seat."

"Oh, okay." I sit down in the chair in front of his desk asking, "What's going on, Mr. Klein?" I smooth out my tie trying to get comfortable in the seat. When it comes to dressing formally by wearing slacks and button ups on the daily for work, it was going to take some getting used to. That's a part of growing up though. You can't wear t-shirts, jeans, and foamposites for the rest of your life.

"I just wanted to say you've done a fantastic job over these past couple of months. I'm very impressed with your work ethic. The only problem is we've filled all the opened positions for new graduates with no experience here at Gensler & Associates," he says making me somewhat disappointed. "Needless to say, I was so impressed I decided to reach out to some people I know on your behalf. Made a couple of phone calls speaking very highly of you and my friend over at Co Architects in Los Angeles is interested in hiring you. They're interested in finding someone young with fresh ideas. What do you think?"
