Lin's POV
Everything seemed like it was going so great. Everyone had their own little secrets as well. Things... As great as they might've seemed, were as terrible as they could be. People smiling through the pain as if it was something they had been with before. Smiling and greeting pain as if it were just an old friend. An old, dear friend.
"I don't care what you have to say!" I heard someone whisper yell. I peeked around the corner and saw Phillipa and her soon to be husband, Steven, in the hall behind stage...
"What do you want me to say then? It was an honest mistake!" He threw his hands in the air and walked down the hall away from her.
"I don't want you to say anything! What would've made you do that in the first place?!" Phillipa asked quietly. I knew I shouldn't have been spying, but I cared about Pippa. She was my pretend wife for crying out loud.
"And what would make you come into this show knowing you had to kiss people?" Her fiance growled.
"Like you even care! I've been doing shows like this longer than I've been with you." She pointed while getting in his face.
"Yeah okay, Ms. I'm better than everyone!" Steven laughed. "I've been acting longer than you've been alive sweetheart." He spat. I was shocked at the amount of hatred coming from the two... Pippa was usually this laid back, never angry person.... This was all so new to me...
"And you've been a dick longer than I've been alive too." She said while walking away from him.
"Don't walk away from me!" He said while pulling her arm back. She yanked her arm away from him and pushed him into the wall. "How..."
"Don't you fucking touch me." Her voice quivered... I frowned and watched in caution now. "Take your stupid ring back. I don't love you anymore." I heard her sniff. She took the ring off her finger and shoved it in his jacket pocket. I hid myself and watched her pass my spot while wiping her eyes. I heard a door behind me slam shut and knew that was Steven. I walked out of my hiding spot and saw Pippa sitting on the steps on the stage crying.
"Hey....." I started. "What's with the tears?" I asked while walking closer to her. She shrugged and looked away from me.
"What is wrong with me?" She asked.
"What?" I was surprised, nothing was wrong with her.. She was perfect in every way possible.
"Why is it that when I think I found someone that I can be with, always turns out to have a terrible past..." She said while wiping her eyes again. I frowned and sat next to her on the steps. "I'm just a terrible person."
"No you're not." I said while pulling her into a side hug. "You're the nicest person I know." I smiled.
"Thanks Lin." She mumbled.
"I'll admit, I heard everything earlier... You deserve better than him." I had to come clean. If I lied to her too, what would that make me?
"Oh... That's embarrassing...." She sighed. I frowned and rubbed her arm. "I'm never going to date again. It's just a waste of time." She groaned.
"Well, I'll second that motion." I shrugged. "But you shouldn't swear it off all together." I frowned. People had the oddest ways of falling love. Even if it meant not dating at all.
"I'm just gonna take a break. I need to back away from it all." She said while getting back up from her seat. "I need to clean up before the show... See you on stage Miranda." She mumbled while walking away. I groaned and tried to think of ways to cheer her up. Maybe they could party and have a night full of fun.
~~~~~
"What are you doing here so late?" I asked her when I passed through the stage.
"Thinking." She shrugged while sitting back up. "Plus waiting for someone to text me back so I can stay at their place tonight." She huffed. "I'm not going back to his place. Not tonight." She frowned.
"I'll stay with you then." I said while putting my bag down to sit on. She smiled and put her phone next to her. "So, you're still dead set on giving up dating?" I asked.
"Yeah... It's just hard." She shrugged. "I want to be able to actually have someone who doesn't have anything with them you know? Someone who is just... Someone who won't treat me like garbage..." She frowned.
"I wouldn't treat you like garbage..." I whispered to myself.
"What?" She asked.
"People shouldn't treat anyone like garbage." I quickly said. She nodded and looked back down at the floor. Her phone vibrated and she took a glance at it. Her face went from blank, to upset... "What?" I asked.
"I have literally no where to go tonight." She frowned. "My friend has her boyfriend over and it's going to be impossible to stay there." She explained.
"You could always stay at my place. I'm by myself anyway." I shrugged.
"Really?" She asked. "I thought you were..."
"It didn't work out..." I said quickly. "Much to my surprise she was really only with me for the bragging rights and to be better than everyone else." I shrugged. Pippa frowned and shook her head. It was a problem with us. People only wanting to be with us for the fame for fortune.
~~~
"Nice place." Pippa smiled when we got to my apartment. It was nice. Something that was affordable to me and decently made.
"Thanks." I said while shutting and locking the door behind us. She placed her bag on the couch and wandered through looking at the pictures I had. "So, do you think tomorrow will be a better day?" I asked.
"It should be. Tomorrow is always a new day for everyone no matter what." She smiled.
"Well you are right on that. Maybe things will look up for the better for us from now on." I said while standing next to her.
"Hopefully." She shrugged. "Lin?" She asked.
"Yes?" I smiled.
"I know it's been a while for you, but did you feel the same when you broke things off with your girlfriend?" She frowned.
"To swear off everything and never date?" I asked. She nodded. "Well, a little. But I couldn't let anything suffer in my life, so I just took a break. Kinda like you. But it didn't last long. I started developing these feelings that turned into a huge crush on this girl I saw..." I laughed nervously.
"Oh... Did it hurt you? Emotionally?" She asked.
"Every single day." I sighed. "She was with another guy the whole time. And it made me jealous even though I never asked her out or anything else. I just worked with her and had to start pushing those feelings aside." I shrugged. She nodded and hugged me. "But now she's single and I'm still too chicken to say anything because I know she's still fragile." I whispered.
"Who is it?" She asked while breaking the hug.
"I can't say. It'll ruin the moment." I said while walking away.
"Lin." She said quietly. I stopped and didn't turn around. "Oak told me... It's me." She sighed. "And I understand why you don't want to say anything. I am still upset. But... Maybe in time..." She said quickly. I turned to look at her and gave a small smile. "It won't ruin anything. I promise. I knew I was going to end things with Steven when I found out he was a cheater... So I did start window shopping at least... And I can say that I did develop feelings for you too. Hard not to when you marry the same guy every night." She laughed.
"At least now I can kiss you on stage and not worry about your guy being mad." I laughed. "And thank you.. I promise to ask you in time." I smiled.
"Thank you Lin."
And in time I did. And we are happy as can be.
