Lin was a teachers assistant to a choir teacher at his old high school. His best friends from school laughed at him for wanting to be a choir teacher, but he was secretly going to be killing it on Broadway as a writer. Well, he hoped. But he needed something that was paying for now. The kids in the class he helped out in were very nice to one another, but their teacher was very hard on them. Lin saw their potential, but they weren't putting their best efforts..

"Son of a bitch!" Jasmine screamed.

"If I hear that word one more time!" Their teacher yelled.

"Sorry!" She shouted back. Jasmine was right in the middle of an intense game of connect four with her best friend, Phillipa. It was an easy day for them since half the class had gone on a field trip with certain classes. They couldn't practice a full set without a full choir.

"I'm gonna win." Phillipa laughed.

"I know... I suck at this game.." She groaned. "Have you put into any thought for colleges yet?" Jasmine asked while dropping the yellow piece down a row.

"Juilliard if they'll take me." She shrugged. "If not I'll probably just do community.." She sighed.

"Good luck. Juilliard only accepts the best of the best. You're just okay." Their teacher said while handing them their grades for the semester. Phillipa frowned, knowing she was trying her best but still failing in his eyes. Lin frowned at the teachers remarks and watched the light leave her eyes.

"Don't worry about him. You'll graduate at the end of the year and you'll be great at whatever you're doing." Jasmine smiled at her.

"I'm better off becoming a doctor like my father. He wants that anyway." She groaned. Lin sighed. He had been a TA for two years, knowing exactly that kids who were amazing at singing always were told they sucked. Usually they fell into a deep depression, working at the most boring jobs he could think of.

Phillipa wanted desperately to be on Broadway and go more into acting, but with the route she was going in choir, it seemed like it was a long shot. She had an audition for Juilliard which meant they reviewed everything she had sent them. A little glimmer of hope. But she hadn't bothered to tell her teacher that.

"Everyone clean up your mess, class ends in ten minutes." Their teacher yelled. Jasmine started cleaning up their mess of connect four pieces while laughing at the teacher notes from her class.

"Refuses to be quiet, but a pleasure to have in class." She read while walking out of the classroom with Phillipa. "Pippa what's yours say?" She asked.

"Uh, pleasure to have in class." She shrugged. "Nothing else." She mumbled.

"Lucky." Jasmine said while shoving the paper back into her bag. "One day, I'm gonna be rich and famous because of my loudness and he's gonna regret it! Regret it big time!" She yelled while pointing at the sky.

"Calm yourself Jas." Phillipa laughed.

*A Few Years Later*

The applause sounded like waves of thunder to the cast. Phillipa was already crying, Jasmine was crying, and Lin was crying. All three of them had made it. Even though Lin had been killing it on stage already.

"You were wonderful." Phillipa finally said to Lin before he was dragged away.

"You were amazing. I can't believe I get to fall in love with you every night. And day." He smiled at her while placing his hands on her cheeks. She smiled as he kissed her nose. She had gotten used to his little acts of love while he tried to balance his life. Both had begun a little romance during previews and began to date each other a month into their run at the Public.

"I wasn't that great..." Phillipa laughed nervously. "I was just okay."

"You were more than just okay." Lin scoffed. "You wrapped up an entire musical and brought that entire audience out there to tears. I'm sure busted up mister Edwards can't say you're just okay." He laughed.

"He's right." Both of them jumped at the sudden voice and saw their old teacher smiling at them. "All of you were amazing." He smiled.

"GUYS WE DID IT." Jasmine came running from around the corner and caught sight of her old teacher. Before she could turn and run away, Phillipa grabbed her arm and pulled her back. "Please no..." Jasmine frowned.

"Thank you." Lin spoke up while wrapping his arm around Phillipa's waist.

"Yes, thank you." Phillipa mumbled.

"I must apologize.." Mr. Edwards said while walking over towards them. "I was only hard on you guys because I knew you weren't performing to your full potential. Now look at you. Singing on a Broadway stage." He laughed. Jasmine threw out a sly smile and crossed her arms. Knowing she had gotten what she wanted in life. "And yes Jasmine, you can gloat." He chuckled.

"You're damn right I can!" She laughed. Phillipa finally let her go so she could change, but she wasn't sure as to why he was there.

"Mr. Edwards, why did you say I was just okay if you knew I was good enough?" She asked him.

"Would you have still put in your all if I had told you that you were one of the best singers I had?" He smirked. She hesitated... She would've... But she wasn't sure. "Exactly. You would've gotten cocky, then you wouldn't have performed your best." He frowned. Phillipa nodded in agreement. She knew he was right.

Lin smiled and pulled her close into his side. He couldn't have been more proud of her.

"Thank you. For pushing me." Phillipa finally smiled. "I don't think I would be here if you hadn't."

"You're welcome." Mr. Edwards smiled at his past students. "I see Mr. Lin here had wasted no time making you his." He laughed at the couple in front of him. He knew it was only a matter of time.

"Yes. I wasted absolutely no time." He smiled.

"Maybe just a bit." Phillipa laughed. The three of them talked for a little while longer, reminiscing on the days of high school. Eventually they left to change and go back to their lives. Phillipa still felt like she was just okay at what she did. She didn't mind being just okay. Being just okay had brought her this far in her life. And she was okay with that.
