Unruly Pets

I never really though much about my little guy. He was the best pet I could ever have. He didn't eat meat, only grass, and loved being lazy on the couch with me all day if I needed to be. He was great.

His name was Munchie. He was a rescue of course. I found him at the pound, being tormented by the other dinosaurs that were only slightly bigger than he was. Gosh I loved him. He was a psittacosaurus. Other wise known as, tiny dinosaur that is the size of a dog. Yes, I could've gotten a dog, or a cat, or even a fish. But I saw this little guy and knew he had to be mine.

As we left our apartment to go on our afternoon walk, we were walking down the hall when we heard the elevator door ding open. I smiled, probably thinking it was a neighbor. We had a few neighbors move in recently. As the doors slid open, I was met with a bigger dinosaur jumping out and sniffing the ground.

"Styla! Heel!" I heard a woman's voice shout from behind the dinosaur. It was a terrifying dino... Standing on two legs and all those horns...

The woman stepped out, having a tight hold on the dinosaur's leash. That's when I noticed it was on a harness as well. Collars must've been hard for her then.

"Sorry if she scared you! She's not used to new places." The woman apologized. I looked down at Munchie and saw him hiding behind my legs already in fear.

"It's okay. Munchie isn't used to seeing other animals on this floor." I chuckled. "Are you new here?" I asked.

"Yes. I just moved in a couple days ago. My parents drove down with Styla here after I got everything Styla proof in my apartment." She chuckled. "Pippa." She extended her hand towards me.

"Lin." I smiled while shaking her hand. "This is Munchie. He's a Psittacosaurus. Yours?" I asked her.

"Styla, she's a Stygimoloch." She smiled while placing her hand on Styla's head.

"What made you get a dinosaur?" I asked her.

"I've had her since I was fifteen... All of my friends in the neighborhood had pets and I wanted one too. And when we went to the shelter I found her. They used her for Dino fighting... So she's had a pretty rough life." She frowned while explaining how she got her pet.

"Wow. I found Munchie in the shelter. He wasn't a fighter, but I guess people can't appreciate that face." I said while stroking Munchie's face.

"He is pretty cute." She giggled. "Well, I should get her inside before she has a fit. Maybe I'll see you around neighbor Lin." She winked.

"Same to you neighbor Pippa." I smiled.

A girl who loved dinosaurs as much as me? Now that was amazing. I was going to have to talk to her more if that was the case. Even more so since we were the only ones on this floor with dinosaurs.

As the weeks turned into months, I learned that she was my immediate across the hall neighbor. She would usually keep her door open, but have her screen door shut. Probably to let in some air. Nope. Styla had an accident and she was trying to air out her apartment.

I would stifle a laugh when I saw her cleaning up the mess. She was adorable. But you could tell she was taking amazing care for that creature.

"So what do you do for a living?" I asked her one day. We would go on walks together to get our dinosaurs socialized with one another.

"I'm going to school to be a paleovet." She shrugged.

"There aren't many of those people here..." I frowned.

"And think of all the people who do have them here. Those people charge up the nose just to be seen let alone have a diagnosis done on them." She frowned. "Which is why I came here. That and the schooling here is better than back home." She chuckled.

"Wow. So full of life and love. Look at you." I smiled.

"Mommy! Mommy! Look! Dinosaurs!" A little boy shouted.

"Yes honey, they're everywhere." His mother groaned.

"I want to pet them!" He cried.

"No! They're full of germs and diseases!" His mother pulled him away from us and I felt highly offended.

"My Munchie is not full of germs and diseases." I scoffed.

"Actually... Munchie is. Styla is too. But they're only within their species. And in all honesty, it's a good kind." Pippa laughed at me. "Does Munchie get a dust bath once a week?" She asked me.

"A What?" I frowned.

"Dust bath. Roll around in dirt?" She raised her eyebrow at me.

"No..." I answered.

"He should. It'll help his skin. Styla rolls around in sand to get all the bugs off her." She smiled. "Munchie can come over whenever he likes to use her sand bath." She offered.

"Just Munchie?" I smirked.

"Well.. I mean.." She blushed. "You can come over too if you'd like." She smiled.

"I would like that." I laughed.

I would go over once a week to let Munchie get all dirty on purpose and he seemed to love it. Styla seemed to have a great place here too. She had a giant tote full of plants all the time and would always have a toy to play with as well.

But what got me going was Pippa. She was so lovely and perfect to me... I was beginning to really fall for her.

After a few months of this, we did begin to date... Here and there of course. We were sitting on her couch watching tv while our dinosaurs curled up on the floor next to each other.

"What are we?" Pippa asked quietly.

"What?" I asked her, taken off guard from her question.

"Are we just friends who hang out romantically because we have the same type of pets?" She frowned.

"We can be. Or I can call you my girlfriend?" I asked her. Her eyes widened and her cheeks flushed red. I couldn't help but laugh at how cute she was. "I would really rather call you my girlfriend." I smiled.

"I would like that." She smiled. I kissed her forehead and felt her curl into me more. Now this I could really get used to.
