Paths Made By Tears

They say that tears leave little scars every time you cry. But depending on the emotion would it scar deeper than the rest. If it were happy tears, or tears from laughter, there wouldn't be any scars. But tears of anger, regret, or sadness... Those scars were deeper than anyone could ever imagine...

Lin's POV

I hadn't ever been self conscious about my scars before. I hardly ever had them except for a few from when I was younger. A few girls that I worked with had a few and said that they made them appear stronger and not so helpless. Of course, there was Phillipa Soo. The one that everyone saw front and center with me. She had no scars whatsoever. Like the only tears she had ever cried were super happy tears. I was curious as to if she was sheltered her entire life, or if she just never had any sadness in her life yet. I would see her stare blankly out to the empty audience sometimes, but never questioned it.

"Pippa! You're quiet today, what's up?" I overheard Jasmine ask her. I leaned in to try and strain for an answer. She was my crush. I wanted to know why she was upset too, but I couldn't be that much concerned just yet...

"Just tired. Stayed up with a really good book." She smiled as she snapped back into reality.

"Oh. Be careful with those books. I got so attached to a character I cried and gave myself a new scar." Renee laughed while pointing at a little scar on her cheek. I laughed under my breath and watched them converse. I'll admit, she was beautiful. I couldn't believe that she was so perfect in literally every way possible. I decided right then and there that I would ask her out. I wandered my way over and felt my heart beating in my throat while walking the short journey to her spot...

"Um, Pippa, could I speak with you?" I asked.

"Sure!" She said while turning around. Jasmine and Renee walked away from us and I felt even more nervous.

"Well, I was wondering if you wanted to go out sometime. Just me and you..." I said nervously.

"Like a date?" She asked.

"Um.. Yes! Like a date... Unless you want it to be just friends then that can be arranged too..." I shrugged.

"When?" She asked.

"We could go after the rehearsal. If that works for you." I smiled.

"Works perfect." She smiled. I nodded and smiled.

After rehearsals, I was excited. Pippa and I were going to go on a date! I planned on going on a short walk through the park since she probably wouldn't want to keep walking after dancing all morning.

"Ready to go?" I asked her. I held out my arm for her to take and got her to laugh a little.

"Of course." She said while taking my arm. I smiled and we walked out of the theatre like a couple of giggling school girls. It was a cloudy day, and it felt like it could rain, but we took our chances. "So, what made you ask me out?" She asked.

"I've been admiring you... And really, really wanted to ask you out... I'm glad I finally did it." I chuckled. "I've had a crush on you since I saw you as Natasha honestly." I admitted. I saw her blush and she let out a little laugh.

"I've had a bit of a crush on you too..." She said quietly. "For a while." She laughed. I smiled and we kept walking through the park. It was quiet, and wasn't that awkward for us. We fit perfectly with each other. It was going to be fun. Well, until it started to rain. "Oh my gosh... Really?!" She frowned.

"It's just a little rain, what's the problem?" I asked.

"I just..." She frowned and I was so confused... "Nothing..." She said quietly. She avoided all eye contact and let go of me. I frowned and looked at her. What was wrong with her? Why couldn't she tell me what her problem was with rain? It started raining harder and she stayed under the protection of a giant tree.

"We could go play in some puddles." I offered.

"Lin... I can't..." She frowned.

"Come on! It'll be fun!" I said while dragging her into the now downpour of rain.

"Lin!" She laughed loudly when we got into the rain. I spun around and let the rain hit my face. I felt relaxed until I looked back at Pip. She was standing there letting the rain fall over her. I walked over to her and saw that she had a lot of makeup on.. "Lin please don't look..." She said while turning around away from me.

"Why?" I asked.

"Because... I can't let you see." She said while pulling herself away. I grabbed her arms and looked at her.

"See what?" I asked. She lifted up her head and I saw what the makeup had been hiding... She had so many scars on her face... All coming from her eyes... Some overlapping and crossing each other's paths....

"Please Lin..." She whispered. I engulfed her into a hug and frowned. Who had hurt her this much that she had so many scars from her tears? I felt her arms wrap around me and could feel her crying. I led her back under the tree and we sat on the bench together. "I will understand if you leave..." She sniffed.

"I would never leave. To me, you're even more beautiful than before." I said while taking her hand.

"How? My entire face is covered in scars." She frowned.

"Because you're not hiding who you really are.." I said while wiping a tear off her eyes. I saw her skin turn a little red and a new scar had appeared where she had been crying. "I just wish you hadn't hurt so much before... Why do you hide it?" I asked.

"No one wants to hire someone like me. So, I cover them... I make sure that people don't see the real me... Ever..." She sighed. "I hate hiding myself, but I have to..." She frowned.

"Well, I won't let that happen. You're not going to be fired from Hamilton just because of this. In fact, I can only imagine how well it would play into Eliza's role. No one knows if she had a lot of scars or not." I shrugged.

"What are you saying?" She asked.

"I'm saying... Maybe you shouldn't wear makeup... People need someone to look up to when it comes to this. Show them that you're more powerful than them." I smiled. She nodded and leaned into my side. I wrapped an arm around her and kissed her wet hair.

Hamilton performances were skyrocketing. People were now embracing their scars from their tears. Others were very proud of Pippa for showing that she wasn't afraid anymore. I wasn't afraid anymore either. No one was.
