Sans' POV:

"What do you mean you can't do anything? She's gone from the house! You must be able to track her down somehow!" I snapped.

"Sir, we are doing everything we can. But with her phone not on her, and with the evidence making it appear that she disappeared from within the household, we are having a difficult time finding her. Please be patient, these kinds of disappearances can take some time to solve."

I let out an angry sigh, pausing for a moment before saying, "Fine. Good luck, officer."

"Thank you for understanding, sir."

I walked out of the police station still a bit irritated, Edith coming back from her phone as I appeared through the doors.

"Any news on mom?" She asked, eager to hear the answer.

I shook my head and she looked defeated, sighing slowly.

"Who would have taken her? Why would have someone done that?" Edith fumed, something that I rarely saw from her.

"Edith, we. . . We have enemies." I tried to find the correct wording.

"We have enemies? What does that mean?" Edith frowned, stopping to look me straight in the eye.

"I have. . . I have some enemies from the Underground. Frisk being in the position she is, being a stay at home mom, appearing weak to others, being as kind as she is, people will try and take advantage of her. And you Edith, being--I-I mean, not that it's bad being a half--I mean, um. . ." I stuttered trying to find the correct way to say this to her, not wanting to use the typical, derogatory term that most used.

"I know, a half-and-half. It's fine, Dad, I'm used to it," She sounded unimpressed, and I felt bad.

"It's not the. . . The most accepted thing, right now, and so there. . . There are people bound to be against, um, what you are, a-and monster and human relationships. They might try a-and help you, a-and. . ." I sighed, "I don't know why she's gone, Edith. I really don't know. . . All I know is that Frisk is missing and we're going to get her back, okay?"

"And what if we don't?" She asked quietly.

"What?"

"What if she's gone forever?! What if she was killed, for any one of those ridiculous reasons? What would we do? I knew that you and her were struggling, and I don't think I could handle being alone at that house, not now, not then, not in the future. If they find her, it'd better be alive, and if it isn't, these people, this town better believe someone has a cheque on their head." She snapped, her face turning red and her fists clenched, starting to bleed a little bit.

"Edith, I promise that--"

"Stop making promises you can't keep!" She yelled, turning away from me and rushing away.

My eye sockets stung with tears. That was a stab to the soul.

"Looks like things are going to plan, huh?" A voice whispered from behind me, and I spun around to face the person who had whispered that.

It was me--But it wasn't me. It was a different version of myself, who appeared to be melting, and he looked like he was ready to fight.

"What the hell did you just say to me?" I asked hostility.

"Don't you know? Didn't your little glitch mention something about me? About my presence, my check ins?"

I frowned, "Who are you?"

"I am the unknown depths. I am the darkest corner of your room. I am the thoughts that terrify you in the night. I am the dreams that have stabbed people in the heart. I, am Nightmare. The most terrifying one yet." He smiled even more.

"Did you. . . Did you take her?" I tried to sound hostile instead of slightly frightened.

"No, a friend did. And you can't expect her anytime soon."

"You'd better let her go!" I shouted as he teleported back, away from me.

"That's not up to me." He tilted his head a little bit, creeping me out.

And then he disappeared.

"Are you kidding me?!" I shouted to the sky above, tugging at my skull a little bit.

This day was one of the worst yet. And that was saying a lot.
