Sans' POV:
I carefully sat up in bed, double checking that Frisk was asleep. She was. I slowly crept out of bed, throwing on my guard outfit as quickly and quietly as I could. I glanced over my shoulder at Frisk, who shuffled in her sleep a little bit, having a nightmare.
I winced as I turned away, wanting badly to go back over and wake her, to comfort her. But I needed to do this, for everyone's sake.
Swiftly I headed downstairs and left through the door, heading to the Underground. I was going to be two hours early, but those two hours were not going to be spent at the prison. I needed to talk to someone, someone who would protect this timeline, and make sure that Frisk and Edith were okay.

I breathed in the familiar atmosphere of Waterfall, the moisture in the air making it feel heavy, but in a relaxing way. The blue flowers around me swayed in a nonexistent wind, whispering stories and conversations to each other and to me.
I smiled a small smile as I passed by them, feeling as if there were people around me, that I wasn't alone down here. Well, I wasn't, but I didn't feel as alone. I ducked into a portion of thick shrubbery and felt for the narrow tunnel to the hidden cave.
I found it quickly, this not being my first rodeo, and began to crawl through the tunnel army style, feeling a bit claustrophobic. I could breathe easier as I arrived at the other end, struggling through more thick shrubbery.
Gerson slowly turned to face me, smiling wide as he saw it was me.
"Heya, Gerson," I greeted him.
He turned around to face me fully and we both sat down on the two mini boulders that we had found and moved into a table sitting formation. He put down his cane gently and closed his eyes, already knowing what I was here for.
"I-I'm sorry to bother you, especially at this hour. And especially with what I have to ask you. . ." I shook my head slowly, feeling guilty.
"No, it is quite alright. I know that you trust me, and I trust you. What is it that you need?" He asked, his voice hoarse with age.
"I need. . . I need to know how to protect my family from. . . From a very strong force, and a very alien force to us. . ."
"You speak of Nightmare and Error, no?"
I tensed a little bit, "Yes. H-How did you know?"
He chuckled, "I am the protector of this timeline, Sans. Did you not know that? I can see and sense what goes on. Nightmare and Error's footprint on this timeline are no small event."
"Wait, you're the protector of this timeline? I just thought you were. . ."
"Old and wise? That's precisely the point, Sans. That's what it's made out to be by the general eye, but not by the people who assigned this position to me."
"You mean Ink?"
He opened one eye, "Ink and Dream."
I shook my head, now just confused, "Why didn't you tell me this?"
"You weren't ready," He paused, "Though you are all still not ready."
"How do I protect them, Gerson?" I cut back to the point.
He closed his one eye and focused, "You need to be strong. You all need to be strong. You need to demonstrate your power and make sure that Frisk does not expose hers. They are after her power, Sans, and so she needs to keep that hidden."
"What power? How did she get it?"
Gerson opened both of his eyes and made dead eye contact with me as he says, "I do not know. She must have been chosen in some way. But I predict she is not the only one with this power."
I shook my head again, beginning to get a migraine, "What do you mean, Gerson? You sound more certain than someone who would be guessing."
He smiled a little bit, "I may know more than I am letting on, but just understand that it is for the best."
"Gerson, if I can somehow protect Frisk and Edith in some way, and you aren't telling me, I will feel betrayed."
"I know you will, but that is not of the matter. The matter is that you know how to, and the rest will unfold as it does. All I can say now is; good luck."
I stood up after that, turning to leave, knowing that Gerson wouldn't talk anymore even if I tried to get him to. I crawled through the narrow tunnel once more, feeling an anxious knot in my chest. I checked my phone as I headed towards the prison, making sure that no one had texted me.
I bumped into someone and mumbled a sorry, reading a text from Frisk. It wasn't an emergency text but seeing it from her, especially at this hour, made me worried. Wait. I had bumped into someone.
I slowly checked over my shoulder realizing that it was Error.
"Hey!" I turned around fully, and he stopped turning around to face me.
"You a-a-aren't as clueless a-as I thought a-a-at first," He smiled wide.
"What are you doing here?" I raised my voice, my pupils disappearing from my eye sockets.
"N-N-No need to get all w-w-worked up."
"If you're here to hurt anyone, then you'd better leave! I will not allow some stranger to hurt anyone, especially not my family." I threatened.
"I-I-I'm just here t-to explain things that G-G-Gerson can't," His voice glitched a lot.
"What are you talking about? How do you know Gerson?" I was shocked that he knew someone so secret, so hidden from everyone.
"Y-You really think that I wasn't a-a-apart of the protectors b-before? I-I-I was made f-for the balance, t-t-they used to care for me. I-I-I can tell you t-things they won't."
"There's always a price," I crossed my arms, "What's yours?"
"N-N-Nothing, r-really. I just w-w-want you to know the t-truth. I-I-I don't like what Nightmare's doing e-either." Error sounded. . . sincere?
"Why? Aren't you working with him?" I could hear the skepticism in my own voice.
"I-I am, b-b-but I don't agree w-with what he's d-d-doing. H-He just wants to keep a-all the power to himself, a-and h-h-he's hurting people by d-doing so. I-I-I want to protect those w-who are innocent and I w-will stop Nightmare if t-t-that means no more harming innocent people." He avoided eye contact, sounding hurt and determined.
"Why should I trust you?"
He looked back at me, "Y-Y-You shouldn't. B-But I'm going to tell you some s-s-secrets anyways. W-Whether you believe me or not, is up to you."
I looked away for a moment.
"Okay. What do you have to tell me?"
