Frisk's POV:
I slowly got up, feeling oddly well rested. I checked my phone quickly, calculating that I had napped for an hour. There were no nightmares, only. . . dreams. I felt myself smile and laugh a little bit; waking up feeling positive was. . . a strange feeling, to say the least.
I sat up and stretched, cracking my neck. Getting up from the bed I looked around, checking that no one was in the room with me. I changed into my usual purple and blue striped t-shirt, jean shorts which were almost knee length, and slipped on some gray socks. I knew that I had to head to the store for a short while, to get some groceries and some security for around the house.
Quickly I made a mushroom and cheese omelet, eating it as I watched Mettaton's show. Goodness, I missed that crazy robot. I really missed everyone down here. We hadn't hung out for a while, because of all that was happening with the barrier being broken, the move, the new jobs, and the many schedule conflicts. I wonder if they knew when I had gone missing. And if they did, did they know that I was back and okay?
I shook my head and stood up from the couch, washing the dish quickly. I headed out the door, double checking that the lights were off and all the windows were locked before I was on my way, also double checking that the door was locked.
On the way, I could feel myself checking over my shoulder and less than often checking my phone. I couldn't help but laugh a little bit, seeing how paranoid I had become over the period of less than a week. But hey, you also couldn't blame me. My family was on the line, alongside how many other people's lives on the line.
As I arrived at the small shop, I was greeted by the shop keeper, Lynia.
"Hello, Frisk! How are you today?" She asked eagerly, coming out from behind the counter to give me a hug.
"Better now that I'm home," I answered honestly, shrugging a little awkwardly.
"I heard that you had gone missing! I am so sorry that happened to you! Are you alright? Did the police arrest the perpetrator?"
I shook my head, "It's really complicated, Lynia."
She nodded, "I respect that. Anyway, I am very happy you're home. Did you need something?"
I laughed lightly, "I'm just stalking up again. I am still a mom, after all."
"Ahhh," She laughed a little too, "How is the family doing?" She wondered back to the till, fidgeting with the flowers behind the counter.
"We're doing well. Edith has a project due at school today, apparently, and Sans is already at work. I can't believe they're already assigning work, especially since they're only freshmen. But hey, what are you going to do, right?"
"I know, my sister told me that. I can't believe it either. But I guess that they're getting their fair share of reality, especially since this is the kind of thing that would happen at work."
"Oh, yeah," I thought about that statement on a deeper level, "A high dosage of reality indeed. . ."
Lynia gave me a strange look and her ears twitched a little bit. I cleared my throat and cleared the air a little bit, "But, hey, that's something that everyone with kids learns, right? I'm sure your sister is having as hard as a time as I am, heh."
"Oh, yeah, what younger parent doesn't struggle? Especially with the tension still between humans and monsters, it makes it that bit more awkward."
I nodded, "I fully understand that."
I accidentally knocked over a water bottle and it made a loud clang, making me jump a little bit. Lynia came back out from behind the counter, "Woah, calm down, it's just a water bottle. A little bit jumpy, hey?"
I nodded, laughing awkwardly, "A little on edge, yes. But I know that I'm safe. We have someone on our side, and they're pretty strong."
She examined the bottle for a moment, "Ah, a little crack. I'll just mark it off, it's alright. And who is this mysterious figure?"
I followed her to the front, having already gathered what I needed.
"Oh, I'm not sure they'd like me telling. But they're really strong, kind of a God, I suppose. I know we can trust them, too, so there's a little hope for safety. I can pay you back for that bottle, Lynia. I-I was being clumsy, I broke it. I can pay you back, really."
I pulled out an extra five to the cost she had rung up.
"No, really, Frisk. It was a mistake. And you're stressed out. It's just one water bottle; not like I'll go out of business from something as small as that."
I put on a forced smile, "Okay."
I pulled back the five dollar bill and pocketed it, taking the ten cents of change with me. I waved goodbye to Lynia as I was out the door, struggling a little bit with the groceries, but feeling at home because of this struggle.
Maybe, just maybe, things would be okay. Maybe Nightmare and Error would be taken care of soon and everything would be okay. Just maybe things would go back to normal, or as normal as they could.
Just maybe, everything would work out.
