The Stars that Grant

There was a boy who feared to fly

Yet  he craved to get away

His destination was to come my way

Though we did not know that at the time

Call it some sort of a instinct but, I had expected an imbuing event to occur

He, on the other hand, had only wished for a change on a star that fell the other day

We both made a wish

I wished for whatever was there awaiting me would just come already

Was it an old friend that awaited me? A policeman to come and cart me away? Or perhaps it was the grim reaper himself

The constant guessing haunted my every sleepless nights
--

Winter came along and there were no more stars to wish on

That was when the boy decided make his move..

While his familiar strangers fell to sleep

He slowly leaned in to take a peek

Into his darkest fears his heart began to race

But he set it aside for he knew now his place

A place that I did not know I was capable of giving

--

As he dashed through the streets with a bag on his back and lungs that burned from the ice cold breeze

He began to think where first he'd be

The motel across town? A hotel out of town?

In what way will I travel? A bus? A train? Perhaps I should have taken my bike..

With his thoughts interrupted, a car came screeching its way towards the boy

His familiars flames had made him feel so warm in this dark weather but no, he was not welcomed

The boy, without a thought, jumped over a fence and climbed into building that was assumed to be abandoned for many years

He crashed through the window and suddenly fell

Not onto the floor but onto a lap

I gasped but no, I was not afraid

He had a glow that moved me in the most impeccable way

And when our eyes met I can tell he saw mine as well

Our souls had burned so blindingly bright but only to our eyes

I jumped in awe

This was my visitor..

Was he good? Was he bad?

He tells me not to fear

The words I never thought I would ever hear

And once again our eyes had danced

The boy knew that this was his last chance

To be free, To be okay

And in my eyes he knew he'd be

The bright and irate eyes of the headlights had slowly crept it's way into the room causing our gander to come a halt

In stillness we lay flat on the burning cold concrete

So hushed that all you could hear are two rapidly beating hearts caused by the two different thoughts

As we watched the lights fade I knew now that this was true

For this is fate and how it works

For we had lived so very close

Who would have guessed that what had been awaiting for me was right around the corner

Now I knew why he looked so familiar
