The depths

The only noise heard in the darkly lit area was his foot hitting the puddle. Yet, the ten year old boy continued running forward until he saw the water with his black flash light lighting up the path a head of him. The depths of the maw were filled with so much go damn water that he was getting sick of it.
He stopped at the edge of the water. Unlike the first time he saw a body of water, a dead person's dress wasn't hanging over the walk way that was above the water. With Seven's luck, he was probably gonna get grabbed by the same monster from before.
Seven let out a gulp he as he shined his new flashlight onto the water. Light bounced off of the waves and shined back into his eyes. There was so much water everywhere. Like everywhere.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw bubbles. In one of the corners of the room he saw air bubbles in the water. His heart stopped knowing that this was the granny. Yet, this wasn't your average granny.
The aquatic women looked like she belonged in a coffin for over twenty years before being brought back to life. Her hair was falling out of her head and had sharp teeth. It did make sense though. She did eat the child who fell down into the depths. As well as fish heads which came from who knows where.
The granny scared the shit outta him. She was even more scary than the Janitor. The worst part was that she wasn't blind. Oh no, she could definitely see out of her cold black lifeless eyes. Yet, they were the most scary things in the world.
Seven felt a tiny smirk fall on his face. Why? He remembered what Ten said so long ago. Long before she escaped. It was something that it seemed only a hero would say. Well, a hero who stood up for their friend who was being picked on for jumping when he heard a crashing noise.
"Seven, fear is natural. It helps us to know when something might be off. We all have fear but, one day everyone is going to do something that is going to kick that fear in the butt."
She always would say things to clam him down. Anything to calm anyone down. It was like she knew that there was no point for arguing. No point of turning on each other. They were all going to end up with the same fate. They were all going to die in the same time. So, she was like everyone's older sister, friend, best friend, and (to a lot of older kids) crush. Was he one of those kids? Nope. He saw her like a sister. Which was good.
Seeing as how all older kids went missing a lot.
Just thinking about her made him a little sad. She had run away for what seemed like forever ago. None of the kids knew how to tell time. So, she could have been gone for a day. Maybe even a few months. He'd never know. All he knew was what he did the night she left.
With a sigh he jumped into the water and began swimming for his life. While he did that, the memory of his last night with his friends played over again in his mind.
He remembered that it was late that night when he was woken up by Ten shaking him. She looked as panicked as ever. Yet, all she did was hug him tightly. Ten never even said a word. All she did was hug him a cry a bit. Which made Seven believe her four year old brother went missing. Which he was wrong about when he looked to the left. Sure enough Twelve was fast asleep next to him.
"Promise me you'll remember us even if we disappear in the night like seventeen did last night." She whispered in his ear. Seven hugged her back tightly. A world without Ten wasn't one he wasn't one he wanted to live in.
If she disappeared who was gonna tell himself stories when he woke up from a nightmare? Who would make sure everyone ate daily? Who was gonna play trains with the younger girls which helped keep them from trying to braid his hair? Who was gonna help him all the time? Who was gonna try to teach the kids to talk? She was the only one who remembered how to talk in full sentences. So, she was trying to help everyone else to talk again.
"Promise." Seven whispered into her ear. He ran his hand through her long brown hair as she began to sob into his chest. They must have stayed like this for hours until Seven fell asleep. When he woke up, he was hugging a pillow. As for Ten, she was gone. Six other children including her brother were gone too.
Even thinking about this night would bring him to tears. Even though he thought about it over and over again. Every person's ho ever treated him like family disappeared in an instant. It wasn't until a little bit later he found out that they only took three kids that night. Why? Well, that's a story for another day.
All Seven wanted to think about now was getting out of this and finding his friend. Which was probably why while thinking about this he had some how found the strength to push a door on top of the land room of water. As both he and the door fell onto the floor, a tall dark figure he recognized as the granny dropped into the water out of the brown arms chair that was floating in the corner.
Seven wasn't fearing her now though. No. He need to find them. The only reason he left was to find his friends and then exit this ship. Nothing was going to standing in his way. Not even a women who eats children.
So he took a look at the water and said the only thing he could think of saying the the granny. Which was,
"Bring it."
