You could hear the noise of the cage being slowly dragged away from all around. Twelve woke up to that noise. Yet, he couldn't see anything.
Six's arms were wrapped around him tightly. She was hiding him in a hug. Her sleeping body was hiding him from view. No one there could see him. Which was good. That way he could run away and look for help like he had wanted to. First things first though, he had to escape Six's death grip.
He squirmed around for a few seconds trying to not wake her up. After that failed, he gripped onto her rain jacket sleeve. Then he proceeded to move her arms off of him ever so slowly. Her arm fell over to his left. Thankfully she was still fast asleep. So, he moved her other arm. Somehow she was still asleep. Or maybe she had passed out now that he thought about it. He was only four years old so, he didn't know the difference.
The tiny boy crept away from a sleeping Six ever so slowly to the bars of the cage. Nothing seemed to be there except a closed door a a few cage bars. The space between the bars was to tiny for him to fit through. Maybe if he tried he could find another way out.Yet, when he turned around he felt his heart stop.
There was thousands of cages around them. Each one had children in them. Crying children. Children having panic attacks. Children whispering their finally prayers. Children begging to be let go say that they didn't want to die. Children yelling at good in anger. Children who were rocking back and forth while whispering things. Children who were laying down on the cage floors who weren't moving.
They knew that this was it. This was where they would die. There was no way anyone could live through what happened next. Twelve on the other hand, didn't know that. He thought everyone just hated tiny spaces. He didn't know that very soon they would be nothing more than a steak for some creatures to eat. To be forgotten by everyone who ever loved them. They would be nothing more than a last meal.
There was still a little hope in his heart though. So, when he got to his senses he began banging on the cage to try to knock it over. He couldn't get it to do anything more than make it tilt by an inch. Then it occurred to him that he could just run over into the wall an that might work. With a gulp he ran into the side of the cage. It made a loud clanking noise which woke Six up.
Her head was a little fuzzy. Everything she looked at was blurry for a few seconds. She tried to stand up and almost tripped as she stood up. When her head finally stopped ringing, her vision went back to normal. The second she saw the cages she felt her heart drop to her stomach. This place was terrifying. Something about this place made her blood run cold. Something she couldn't put her finger on.
Then it hit her. A memory. A memory of when she appeared to be the same age as Twelve. With the masked women in it.
"This is where we send the vermin to die." Her eyes remained on the children in the cages as she ignored the terrified look in Six's eyes. She only glanced at her for a second. The second the white masked women's eyes fell on her, her glance turned into a glare of hatred. Her eyes turned back to the cages.
"Let's hope you don't mess up enough for me to send you here." The masked women said as she turned away. She began walking away leaving a very young and short Six. Her eyes were full of fear. Would she really send Six here? Didn't she like her. Didn't m-
"Six hurry the fuck up before I have to put you back in the closet." The masked women snapped.
Six sucked in a breath for a second. They were all gonna die if she couldn't find a way out. They were gonna die. With that she ran into the same cage wall that Twelve ran into. The exact time Twelve ran into it.
The sent the cage tumbling down to the ground. It made a loud crashing noise as it hit the ground. The second he cage hit the floor, the door swung open. Six climbed out of the cage co quickly that Twelve had only blinked once and she was out of the cage. He looked up to see her arms were being held down for him to grab onto. Twelve grabbed them quicker than anything he had grabbed onto in his life before.
Six held him in her arms as she jumped off of the cage. The second her bare feet touched the cold floor, a larger shiver was sent up her spine. Her heart was beating so fast that she felt like it was gonna stop any second. She went to run off but, one glance at a cage with a kid in it and next things she knew, she was tugging on a cage door.
She was pulling on it has hard as she could as the child began crying. The door didn't budge. It just stayed still. Which meant that it was never going to open. At least, not with out the key that the Janitor had.
Six kept trying though. She kept pulling on it over and over again. The child on the inside of it just looked up at her before choking back some sobs. Then a loud foot step was heard approach. The child grabbed onto her hand and looked her in the eyes. She didn't know why but, the child had not a look of fear in it's eyes. Instead it was a look that just said 'leave'.
Six shook her head no but, the child pushed her away from the cage. They expected death. They knew what was coming. If someone could avoid it then, so be it. They had to run. The child knew they had to. They had excepted their fate.
So, Six turned to leave only to see the Janitor standing inches away from them. He began walking towards them ever so slowly while dragging his arms behind him. Seeing him made the children crying, cry louder. The ones panicking, panics more. The dead ones remained motionless.
She didn't know where to go. She didn't know what to do. There was no where to go. They couldn't make a noise or he would kill the. All she could to do now was back up. Back up a pray he grabbed another child.
That is until a strange noise came from directly across from them. It was a noise pipe with a hole in it made when smoke came out of it. She glanced that way. A young boy who appeared to be the same age as her in a blue shirt with a shackled around his leg waved them over to his cage. The door was opened.
Six bolted over there with in seconds with Twelve buried in her arms. She didn't want him to see what came next. Or hear it. No one wanted to do either of those things either.
The Janitor grabbed a cage with a child in it. A five year old, chubby child. Then he dragged it away ever so slowly as the child began crying and begging to be let go. Crying that he didn't want to die.
As he was gone she uncovered Twelve's eyes and ears. He looked around. One cage was gone but, he didn't know where. All he knew was that he saw yellow for a while. Then he saw him. His sister's friend.
"Ba!" Twelve smiled raising his hands up in the air with a smile. The run away kid felt a happy smile spread across his face as he saw his friend. He may have hated it before that when ever he made the noise his said his favourite animal made. Yet, today after what felt like years without his friend, he was gonna let this one slide.
"T!" Run away smiled. Twelve jumped out of Six's arms and hugged his leg. Run away grabbed his tiny friend tightly in his arms.
"Swx, Ba. Ba, Swx." Twelve smiled as he pointed from runaway to Six and Six to run away. Run away smiled as he held his hand out for a hand shake. Six grabbed his hand. Yet, except for shaking it she grabbed it and ran quickly out the cage door with them.
They ran out of that room as cheers were heard. Cheers for three of them living. They were going to live on through them.
While running they saw it. The Janitor was just around the corner. Yet, they didn't see it. Instead they almost ran right onto a squeaky floor board. That is until someone grabbed Run away's arm and pulled him back wards. They all looked back to see her. A tall girl in a green cape with long brown hair. Her brown eyes were full of fear. Far behind her was a person tugging on another cage wearing a black hood over their face.
"Stay here." Her voice sounded like a whispering creature. A creature who knew all. Twelve felt tears fall down his face as he saw her. He raised his arms up with a smile. Then he said the one thing she loved him saying. The one thing that made her so proud. Her name.
"Ten!"
