The first time Six was hungry was after she had run from a bit from that monster with Twelve in her arms. Twelve was trying his hardest hit to cry while he snuggled into her chest.
He tried not to let out a high pinched scream in anything when they kept running. Even when they had dodged him and the Janitor was who knows where, he kept his mouth shut. Meanwhile Six was trying her hardest to keep running. That is until a loud grumble leave her stomach.
She didn't know why but, she dropped Twelve. Twelve wasn't hurt at all. Instead he was just a little surprised as he picked him self up. Why had Six dropped him? What was wrong? Where were they?
One of those questions as he looked around. His head moved back and forth before he realized that this was the cafeteria. It was where they sent the children to eat. So many children had eaten here at one time. Except the ones who got sick. They just stayed there in the bedroom laying on their beds until they disappeared the next morning.
He had once smuggled food to one of the kids in the maw who wasn't feeling well. They had eaten half of the bread he had brought. He remembered how the child was so great full that they started crying. They seemed so happy. He never understood why the child disappeared the next day never to be seen again.
Oh lord. Was that what was happening to Six? Was she gonna be there one minute cough a lot, maybe even barfing up ketchup, covered in black spots and when he opened his eyes again disappear? He couldn't lose someone else! Not after losing his sister.
Six shook her head. She was fine. It was all in her head. It was all in her head. She kept thinking this as she grabbed Twelve's hand and continued walking. Though she kept walking quickly trying to leave.
They continued walking away as fast as possible, hand in hand as Six's stomach rumbled. Each time it rumbled, it felt like someone was stabbing her in the stimulant with knife. Then it felt like someone twisted the knife pushing in deeper.
Eventually she ended up falling on her hands and knees while her stomach rumbling with Twelve letting out a high pitched scream of surprise. He hadn't seen him this before. Twelve hadn't seen anyone act like this before. Why was she acting like this? What was wrong with her?
"Eat. Eat. Eat." A voice in her head kept telling her what to do as she continued looking down. She was so hungry. It had been days since she last ate. She couldn't even remember what food even tasted like! Yet, something told her she wasn't hunter for food. She just craved to eat something else. Something meaty. Some that would squirm in her teeth when she bit into it.
That is until something hit the ground in front of her. She quickly raced over to it to get a better look. It was definitely loaf of bread. Her eyes grew large as she picked it up. Her eyes only flew ahead of her when she heard Twelve cough.
A young male with black hair looked back at them. He motioned at the bread. Almost as if to say 'eat it, I don't need it.'. Yet, the second she looked up the same voice she heard a second ago spoke again. Except this time it said something different. All it said was,
"Eat."
Six completely down over half of the whole thing in seconds. It was so good. It tasted really good. It was the best thing she had eaten in years. Well, technically days. Yet, it was still good none the less.
Her eyes ended up glancing up at Twelve when she only had a handful left of the Bree's left. He looked like he was drooling in his mouth. Twelve looked so hungry? Then it occurred to the little girl who was hunched over, that this boy might not have eaten for days.
Six stood up straight with a sigh before handing him what was left of the bread. Twelve grabbed the last piece of breed and ate it within seconds. Afterwords, he gave six a large smile that melt her heart. She turned to thank the bread boy after words by, he seemed to have disappeared.
A couple seconds later she took Twelve's hand again and walked away. Hand in hand with her friend. She knew she was gonna get hungry again. Hopefully, that wouldn't even be as bad as this hunger strike her body was on. Hopefully it was worse.
Little did she know the next hunger she would experience would bring danger to them all.
