If you told Ten where she'd be now two days ago, she probably would be laughing her butt off. She literally live in a bucket with her little brother savaging for what ever little bit of food she could find. All while trying to stay hidden from the Janitor and other creatures she's seen walk by while her brother slept.
Yet, here she was now. Running for her life with her little brother in her arms, a friend in one hand and a yellow jacketed girl in her other hand. None of which were wearing shoes.
Some may wonder how how they got to this point in their life. A point where they would die if they stopped running and hiding. A point where they were doomed to be killed for others gluttony. A point where they had to scavenge to survive. A point where they were trying to look out for who ever they can.
It was what others would consider hell but, it was what Ten considered normal. She had been doing this for a long time. How long exactly? No one knew for sure. Even though she could remember more than the others, she couldn't remember how to tell time.
So, it was kinda hard to wonder how this all came down to this. How it came to her saving kids skin after being lost.
She would have to say it started what felt like a few days go. In fact she could still remember it like it was yesterday.
Ten glanced over at her brother. The tiny four year old snuggled into the tiny piece of clothe Ten had found. It may have been a handkerchief to someone but, to the kids, it was the only blanket they had.
"Ten."
"What?" Ten asked as she saw her brother begin shuffling under the blankets. He kept fidgeting under the blankets ever few minutes. His face was scrunched up in a frown.
"Ten." He mumbled again as he snuggled deeper in under the blanket.
Ten sighed as she walked over to her brother. Then she sat down right next to him and ran her fingers through his hair. It was what usually calmed him down. So, she wasn't surprised when in seconds he began to lose up.
"I'm right here buddy. Your sister's here looking after you and she always will be." Ten smiled as she leaned over giving her brother a kissing on the forehead. The frown on his face was gone and was replaced with a look of relaxation.
"I love you buddy. Now sleep tight." Ten stated as she slowly walked away. She was going to go eat when she heard something scurrying into the bucket. As she guessed it was a gnome. Again.
Within seconds she walked grabbed a pice of food and walked over to the little creature. Gnomes continued standing their all alone without shaking as she crouched down to his hight.
"You hungry Bo?" Ten asked as she held out the tiny piece of breed she had stolen from him. The tiny gnome grabbed the door from him faster than ever.
"Is see you're just as hungry as Twelve is when he skips breakfast." Ten smirked as the tiny gnome gobbled the food within seconds. It would be a terrifying sight to normal persons to see them stuff something under the hats then listen to a thing being swallowed hole. Yet, Ten had grown used to it.
She had grown used to a lot. Like Twelve playing tag with gnomes. Rats being chased around by gnomes along with a four year old dressed like them. Loud creaks admitting from everywhere. As well as everyone crowding into the bucket whenever the Janitor walked by. Or something else.
Bang. Bang. Bang.
The ground shook with every step the Janitor took. The gnome ran to the back of the bucket in fear. Ten on the other hand watched him walk.
Sure her heart was racing but, she wanted to make sure he wasn't headed towards them. Usually that never happened. Except for today.
His feet stopped at the end of the bucket. She could hear his hands hitting the metal bucket's sides. She could see the corner of his fingers on the front of the bucket.
Quickly she glanced back at her brother and the gnome behind her with a look of panic on her face. Twelve was still asleep on the floor while the gnome began shaking in the corner. As she glanced back she felt the bucket get lifted in the air.
She looked straight ahead outdid the bucket to see the Janitor's pants. Ten gulped. She knew what she had to do. She didn't wanna do it but, is she didn't the last thing she held dear would die.
"Bo, look after him for me." Ten gulped looking behind her one last time. The gnome nodded it's head before shaking more. A smile spread across her face before her eyes fell on her brother. A frown was upon her face before she knew what happened.
Hopefully they'd meet again. One day. Maybe when Twelve was older and meet his end, they'd meet in the after life. Maybe they could tell jokes. Maybe even talk about the good old days but, that would be a far away. She had to focus on now. And now, it was time to go. Time to trade it all away for the only person she loved the most in the world.
"Twelve, I love you." Ten smiled as she tuned backwards before jumping backwards out of the bucket right onto the Janitor's foot.
He dropped the bucket in confusion. His long honey arms flew to his feet where Ten was. Within seconds she felt he fingers wrap around her. She began trying to struggle out of his grip without making a noise. Yet, it was no use. He walked away with Ten in one hand.
Before she knew it the bucket she called home became smaller and smaller. That is until it seemed to disappear out of view.
Meanwhile Twelve sat up in his bed with a yawn. He yawned as he rubbed his eyes and glanced around the room.
"Ten?"
