Chapter 15 : Malice

"I just can't believe this," I mutter to myself, pacing in front of academy's main door.

I was standing here, anticipating for him to pick me up for about an hour, although it seems like I have been waiting for an eternity.

Thing is, he would have told me if he wanted to cancel, so something pretty terrible must have happened to him.

Or you know, it might just be me, I rationalize. Three weeks after his mother died and still I was overprotective of him. I call a cab to take me home before I start to have a full on meltdown.

After reaching home, I notice that it's oddly silent. I got in, not making any noise and headed straight to the living room.

I gasp when I enter, it's obvious that there was a fight in here and that someone was dragged by force. Dread starts to fill me as I try to imagine what happened.

I start searching for something - anything - that would help me find them. I take a look at my bookshelf and notice a rose made of paper on my favorite book.

I pick up the rose and open it. There are only numbers written in it. I look at it in puzzlement. Then an idea shoots me in the head and I get a pen and a paper to use.

M Y S T E P F A T H E R

I take out my laptop and start digging in Ash's history through FBI files. Double gasp when I find out what I was looking for and I instantly send an E-mail to Elias to inform him of what's going on.

I call lily too and tell her to meet me at an address in half an hour with every weapon she's got at the house. (I told her to bring me some strawberry gums too! I love those.)

I arrive a little late. Imagine my surprise when I see that Nathan is with her. At the look I give her, her face turns seven shades of crimson and she says : " he wouldn't let me go alone after he learned about the baby and also that she is 5 months old." I scream and hug her. Her child is going to be a little girl! And wow. I didn't peg that pig as a romantic.

I start filling them in. " Ash had a stepfather who killed someone and made it look like it was Ash's dad so he could have Elen. Elen believed him and for Ash's safety, married him. As for Ash's dad he died in prison a year later from the sadness of losing his son and the love of his life. Ash was the one who found that out 4 years ago but he couldn't find him. Now he's back and he holds Ash, Lizzy and Jason hostage. We need to save them before it's too late."

Lily and Nathan stare at me for a while. Then: "how do you talk so much without taking a breath in between?" Nathan asks, actual curiosity written on his pretty boyish face.

I just shake my head at them and we get going. I found his house with Elias's help. Nathan picks the back door lock and we get in silently.

The main hall is like an old fashioned museum. Two floors connected with a staircase with a main chandelier hanging from the ceiling. The chandelier is big enough that it covers a whole floor and half and it is near to the first floor where Ash's step dad and his men stand.

With Nathan and Lily's secret agent help, I silently go on the big Chandelier through the second floor which Ash's step dad stands directly below it. It's not that up so I can easily jump and it's big enough to hold me up.

"Sooner or later you will have to agree to work with me Ash. We both know that you won't let your precious team just die. Why go through all the trouble?"

"Because he knew that sooner or later we would come. He just needed a little time." Nathan calls out to him from the bottom of the stair case and he charges with lily.

Ash's dad sends his men and after a violent fight they catch both of them. His men are oddly well trained. I wait until his back is to me and he is busy humiliating them so when I fall he won't notice me.

I get closer to him before any of his men can warn him and inject a white liquid to his neck and use my other hand to hold my knife to his neck. (I love being the secret weapon.)

"Tell your men to drop their guns, free my friends and surrender or what I just injected will kill you in less than 5 minutes." I deadpan in his ear.
