My brain isn't talking to me.
I miss her snapping at me when I do a stupid thing. (Which I had been doing a lot lately.) but I think when she learned the real reason Ash wanted me and how stupidly I trusted him, it just snapped.
And that is why I'm arguing with Elias alone right now. With no back up.
"I told you I will not work for you again."
"but you will not be working for me. You will be working with me."
"same difference."
"come on Juliet. We need you. I don't know what happened between you and Ash but he's been acting like a zombie since you-"
I don't hear what he says next because I black out the second I hear Ash's name with a memory jabbing at me.
A dark blue sky. The night before the harsh truth. I was staring at a star. His favorite star.
Do you see it too? I whispered in the dark, hoping he would find me.
Now there was just simple pain
"no Elias. What do I have to do to get rid of you?"
"one last mission. There is no one I trust more."
Just one last goodbye.
"okay, fine. But this is the last time."
He hardly tries to hide his smile. "as you wish."
I walk to the base with my chin held high. Both Jason and Elizabeth try to catch my eye but I don't spare them a glance.
His back is turned to me so he doesn't even see us approach. He is laughing at a thing that Lily tells him (so much for him being a zombie Elias.), there is another guy that I had never seen before. Dark hair, blue eyes and hot, hot body. (seriously is looking good in the job prescription? Then what the hell am I doing here?)
Elias clears his throat and the three of them face us. And the look Ash gives me. God! Like I broke his heart. Like he was the one who cried his eyes out these past days. Like I lied to him.
"so William, this is Juliet. You are going to help her with the poisoning case. Juliet, this is William. He transferred newly here and we will have him here for at least a year. It's such a sad thing that you didn't agree to work with us anymore."
I shake his hand. "nice to meet you."
"Peril and Lilac will also assist you on this." I give Lily a small but warm smile which she returns with a wink.
After we all get into the office, Will fills me in. that a big producer named Alexander Prince went mad after the death of his child and added some poison to one of his products. And he killed himself after so nobody could get anything out of him.
