Chapter 20 : killed (part 1)

"Shut UP!" I yelled at the birds perched outside my window. They grin at me mischievously and sing louder. Six in the morning, and I'm woken up by a couple of noisy birds. I start going to my window to shoo it away, but a hand grabs my wrist and hauls me back to the bed.

I feel my back pressed against a strong chest and hands going around my waist from behind. "How can you sleep so easily with so much noise?" I mutter to him.

He kisses the crook of my neck. "You'll get used to it after a while. And besides, I've got my Rose right here." He turns so he's on top of me, his hands braced on the bed so he won't crush me with his weight, a wicked grin plastered on his face.

Two can play this game, bad boy.

I put on my most horrified face, and, staring at the side of his face, I yell, "SPIDER!"

He instantly jumps, looking around wildly. "What? Where?" I use the opportunity to push him off the bed.

He falls with a loud thud, but a smile quickly replaces his confusion. "You were only kidnapped a month ago, Rose. I won't go easy on -"

"Juliet!" Lizzy says, barging in. She looks like she's just seen a ghost. I hadn't ever seen her that pale before. And that scared me.

"Elias just called. He said- he said that he found Lily in his office."

I blinked at her. "And that is bad because?"

"He didn't just find her Juliet," she sobs. "He found her dead body."

"They say she died from a heart attack," Elias says, pulling at his hair.

"And she was magically dropped off at your office?" Nathan says, as he looks up at Elias for the first time we've arrived.

His eyes were red and puffy. His hair was messed up. He looked empty.

He's been crying. I think to myself. He loved her.

And he lost her.

A wave of pain washes over me as I think of her daughter, who is a month old now. He is too broken to take care of her. He is too broken to take care of himself.

"They could have easily injected some oxygen. Easy death. She probably didn't feel a thing." Will says from the side of the room, looking at Nathan. Even he was trying to him through the pain.

But Nathan is just too busy burying his face in his hands to notice anything.

"I'm sorry, I can't-" he doesn't even finish his sentence. He walks out without looking back and Elias, being his father, follows him.

Ash takes my hand in his. "Let's go home." I barely nod, feeling the familiar tears welling up in my eyes. He calls out to Jase and Lizzy too and we go on our way

I lie awake on my bed until it's past midnight. The thought of her cold, lifeless body now buried beneath the dirt unravels me. This isn't right, say the monsters in my head. Someone killed her. You owe it to her to find out who, my mind says. She would have done the same, my heart adds.

Fine.

I silently go to Ash's room and wake him up. "Can you take me to Lily's house?"

He puts on his pants and a t-shirt and takes his car keys. The drive there is quiet. I knock the door silently, afraid of waking Nathan and his little girl. It barely takes a second for the door to open. And there stands Nathan with his tousled hair and tired, sad eyes.

Apparently I wasn't the only one who had trouble sleeping.

"I didn't find anything in her laptop," Nathan says as he leads us to their bedroom.

"She has been asking me to teach her how to hide files. Let me take a look at that thing too."

He hands it to me, and I sit on the bed and start cracking the hidden files. Even though I didn't teach her much, she did a good job at hiding them. I find a folder that looked suspicious and opened it. There were a few word files, but a video caught my attention the most.

I call out to Ash and Nathan, who had gone to check on Angel, and when they sit next to me, I open the video.

"I really do hope that you find these files Juliet, because I have been killed and you need to know why."

my arms didn't work. someone grabbed me from the side, but I couldn't feel it. it felt like I was still screaming, but there was no sound.

there was no deamon.
