"Uhm, what does this mean?" Lillya asks, breaking the moment of silence we all held after reading the texts, the last one in particular leaving us all is disarray.
"What does any of them mean?" Eren says. Mo approaches us, interrupting our attempts at deciphering the texts.
"Before you get too caught up into it, you should find some privacy," she waves her arms in a scooting motion, making us venture father into the unfamiliar building, "first things first; this place is called Core's Source, yeah I know very creative," she says with a sarcastic roll of her eyes, "and the big tower in the center is kind of like a super map, a computer even. Runner's like me use that to locate our next target, at least the newbs do, there are some like me who're so good they can rely solely on instinct to get to the target. If you really think about it, everything we do as Runners and Handlers is like we're one big factory or something."
We all gaze around the room once more, curious expressions on all our faces as Mo guides us to the beginning of the upward swirling floor. The floors are dark grey; the walls are white with no decoration or windows. The only things on the walls are long rectangular lights going from the roof to the ground, lighting the entire building. The way we came in is the only entrance, and when looking back at it, it's a large two-door entrance; the doors are wooden with a dark color, almost matching the color of the floor with two long handles on each door that meet in the center. Like the lab, this place also seems extremely high tech in the sense that everything is so white and undamaged. When looking at the tower I notice unfamiliar scribbles across its screen all over, and then realize it's a language, one I'm completely unfamiliar with, it may even be more than one language and I'd have no way of knowing.
"But it's also a sort of energy," she continues explaining while we casually make our way up, "like where most of the power in Crate of Core is drawn from in order to keep this place running, it's like a battery, hence the name Core's Source." She shrugs and whilst continue our hike up the winding floor, I decide to ask.
"I've been curious, Mo; how come if you're not human, why do you use humans English language?" I ask while my eyes gaze at the ground below as it grows farther and farther away. When hearing no response I look at her for her answer, but she only stares at me with a blank expression and doesn't answer.
"In case you're wondering, were going to the place I usually go to when I finish a mission and await the next, uhm; you could call it my home since it's the only place I'm welcome to come and go without inconveniencing anyone."
"Since when were you afraid to inconvenience anyone?" I nudge her with my elbow as I tease her and we exchange a laugh. In the middle of my laughter her hand is suddenly wrapped around my neck and I'm pushed against the edge of the railing, she clutches my throat and it becomes hard to breathe. I tap her arm in the same instant the others are suddenly crowding Mo and trying to get her off me.
"Shut up, jackass! My presence could never bother anyone motherfuc-!"
"LET HIM GO!" Lillya grunts in pain from her arm as she sends her leg down onto Mo's arm, forcing her to release me or else be thrown to the ground. Just as they're about to engage in a fight again I hold my hands up and fling my body between them, catching them both by surprise.
"L-Lillya its fine, I went...I went too far with that one." I say apologetically with my hands up facing Lillya. Her glaring over my shoulder and I can feel Mo glaring right back at her, Eren stands to Lillya's right and Rika on her left, they all look at me with confused glares, wondering why I'm defending her.
"So let's go!" Mo breaks the silence with her chipper tone, acting as if another intense stare-down between her and my Handlers didn't just take place. I look at them with pleading eyes, begging them to just trust me before I turn around and follow Mo who's already continued moving, I look back and they're exchanging looks, shaking their heads and then walking behind us a short distance away.
