as i walked down the stairs, i smelt some kind of breakfast cooking. in the kitchen stood millie,"what's for breakfast?" i asked.
she was noticeably happy by the sound of her voice,"chocolate chip pancakes and coffee for my special guest! you came down just in time, i just need to serve them. i made enough for you to eat later when i'm gone getting more food, unless you wanna go with me."
i sat down at the dining table and waited to be served. she gave me my plate and my coffee and sat beside me with hers.
"i really can't go with you since i know jack will be looking for me until i return home," i didn't want to sadden her in any way but i had to know,"so what happened to your little sister?"
she was saddened as soon as i brought it up,"my mom was pregnant finally after twelve years. she had always wanted to give me a little sibling and it was finally happening. we were all so excited until my mom went into labor too early. my baby sister was too little to survive and the doctors were unable to stop my mom from bleeding. and that's the story of how i lost two important people in my life on the same day."
i placed my hand on top of hers,"i'm so sorry, mills, that's horrific."
"it was at the time, but it's gotten better. it definitely still hurts, but the pain has lessened. i should probably get going since we have almost nothing to make lunch with. i haven't gone to the store in days."
"i'll see you later, then?"
"i'll be back in an hour, make yourself at home. do anything, eat anything."
she was out the door in a rush and i was left alone. first i explored the house. i discovered a polaroid camera and left it out so i wouldn't forget to play with it later. then i discovered some photo albums underneath the television stand. one read: john and alice's wedding. another read: millie's younger years. and the last one read: millie elizabeth bobby brown 1982-1985. i opened the last one. millie had long hair in 1982, i wonder what encouraged her to cut it so short. it was almost shorter than mine now. after a while of staring at pictures of millie i finally got to the picture that read: right after millie's big cut! such a brave girl for donating!
it all made sense, she donated her hair for wigs for people with cancer or other hair loss diseases. she only did it in april of this year.

and then i discovered a photo from 1983, a picture of millie kissing her mother's baby bump. it made me sad since she only told me the story this morning. millie looked so happy in all of the pictures before her mother died. she's so happy now but it's noticeable she's lost something.
