we were like dogs thrown on the streets, by our parents of course. we didn't like to announce it but quite literally we were orphanage escapees. people looked for us everywhere, i don't know how they never found us; maybe they never looked hard enough. we didn't care what the world thought of us, what we did or said, it didn't mean a thing. life was careless to us, having freedom and acting wild was our goal.

gatrine, the last name of the man who ran our former home, the orphanage. whenever we wanted to say a bad word or whenever we felt down we said: gatrine. the reason was because it felt so good to get away from the man, we escaped from him and we should be happy always.

being an escapee isn't too easy but it's also not so hard when you have three friends by your side. joe, he's the oldest, standing at eighteen years old; the leader of our small pack. he's wise and strategizes the best ways for us to live and keep us all together, he's like my brother and i've never been privileged to say that i looked up to him.
then there's quiet sadie, the sixteen year old redhead who lost her family due to a car accident. her family abandoning her wasn't purposeful, it was forced. that's the main reason why she rarely talks.
then there is me, a fresh young teenager, aged fourteen. there's not much to know about me, i don't remember life with my biological family. i was an orphan my whole life
last but not least, there's short jack, aged thirteen. i was always protecting him, all of us older kids accidentally babied him. that was okay with us but jack just wanted to fit in, there was never a dull moment because of jack's humor.

with all of our personalities combined, we were the perfect group. we were strong in different ways and we made each other happy. we made each other annoyed at times, just like a family, i always believed that we were a family.

life didn't start getting hard up until three months after we went missing from the orphanage. joe was always stressed about feeding us because we had spent all of our saved up money. sadie became more quiet, which didn't help joe with his stress-filled mind. jack was eager to explore but we didn't let him.

and that is where our story begins, at the peak of reality. bankruptcy.
