Second, this book is completed. Third, the ending should indicate that there will be a book two, which I've already written and published! This is book one of the trilogy. Book two is called Bitter Sweet. Don't be shy to check that out! Also, book three has recently been published and is called Amazingly Awful, so go ahead and check that one out as well! Once again, thank you for reading this book. Please enjoy 💕

My chest ached as I continued to run for my life. My heart was beating at the speed of eighth notes, and my breathing was short and heavy. I knew that I wouldn't be able to continue running much longer.

With each sprint I made, the cold wind slapped across my face. I could barely see anything because the night was really dark, but I knew that they were very far behind. I was able to outrun them because I've been very good at track my whole childhood.

Now, you're probably wondering why I'm running and whom I'm running from. Well, I was running away for various reasons.

----There were only a few rules in town. The first was to never cross into unwelcomed territory, yet here I was trying to escape from the same unwelcomed territory I snuck in. The second was to never disrupt the 'peace.' I already destroyed that. The third rule was to never run away from a battle. I was beyond running away, as I was on the verge of escaping.

Plus, in my opinion, something is considered a battle when it includes two or more parties fighting against each other. This was no battle! I did not stand a chance against the dangerous Nickolas Carter.

According to rumors, Nickolas was the most cold-hearted, wicked person someone could ever meet. He was known to be the most dangerous man the world has ever seen in history. Rumors had it that he kills anyone that even looks at him in a way he disproves!

But even though I disobeyed and betrayed him, I knew I wouldn't die as yet. I was special, according to him. Furthermore, he couldn't harm me, according to the compromise he and my brother, the only sibling and family I had left, made.

Apparently my brother and Nick had some sort of deal, but my brother didn't hold up on his end of the bargain. My selfish ass brother didn't want to die, so he made another deal with Nick. This deal included Nick's having me in his possession as a collateral for my brother. According to the deal, if my brother didn't do what he promised to do, well, I had no idea what would happen to me. I wasn't supposed to be 'collected'- as my brother had put it- until next week Friday, but I -being a defiant little brat- snuck into Nick's territory and tried to poison his drink.

And that was why I was running away, even though I knew my running would probably be completely useless. Why? Because Nick already had a few of his gang members chasing me.

The only confidence that motivated me to run was knowing that even if I was caught, despite the fact that I betrayed Nick, Nick wouldn't kill me; so I had might as well tried to escape. I knew he wanted something very precious from me because he told me so right before I tried to poison him. ----

I ran another block before stopping to breathe. While resting, I remembered I had my phone on me. All I needed to do was contact Jasmine, my best friend, and ask her to pick me up. If I could find a place to hide until, that would also be great.

I ran another block, and to my luck, I noticed an alley. I ran into the alley and hid in an empty garbage can. I then took out my phone and began to text Jasmine.

Me: can you pick me up? I'm @ Park street between Claw Road and Chance Avenue in the alley across from the tennis court. Stop in front of the garbage can. Emergency!!

I knew that calling the cops would be useless, as Nick had them under his control. Jasmine was the only person, besides my brother, I could rely on.

I waited anxiously for Jasmine's reply, and I grew impatient by the second.

Jasmine: sure. Omw

Me: tysm but plz hurry. Don't have much time.

Jasmine: I'm like 3 mins away. Calm ur tits.

Me: HURRY!

I bit my fingernails as I nervously waited for Jasmine to come pick me up. When two minutes passed, I looked through a tiny hole in the can.

I smiled and jumped out of the garbage can when I saw car lights heading towards me. I ran to the car without hesitating and opened the door. I hopped in, buckled my seatbelt, and turned my head to the driver's seat with a huge smile plastered on my face. I was ready to thank Jasmine for saving me, but my smile slowly fell when I noticed that this wasn't Jasmine's car. Next to me in the driver's seat was no other than the notorious Nickolas himself. He jabbed a needle into my arm, and it didn't take long for my vision to blur and for me to pass out.
