Nick and I were back in the house, and Kendall was still sleeping over at Nathan's. I brought my bags into my room and threw myself down on my bed. My phone rang, and I quickly answered it once seeing my brothers number appear as the caller ID.
"Hello?" Junior called out.
"Junior! It's me," I responded.
"Oh, my fault. I still didn't save your new number," Junior responded. "You aight?"
"Are you?" I asked, flipping the focus.
"Yeah. I know who has the ring. I just can't get it from the person," Junior answered.
"What do you mean?" I frowned.
"An enemy of Nick has it. If this guy even sees my face, it's clipped," Junior sighed.
"So how are you gonna get the ring?" I asked.
"That's the point," Junior noted. "I'm sorry."
"For what?" I asked.
"Letting you down. Ever since mom and dad died, I've been nothing but a disappointment. Now you're stuck with Carter," Junior answered. "I wanted to fix this, but I can't."
"Well, Nick and I are...getting along, so maybe you can come back, and everything will be fine," I suggested.
"I don't want you getting too close to him, okay?" Junior announced.
"Why? Isn't....well wasn't he your bro?" I asked.
"We fell off because I didn't want him having you," he noted.
"Why?" I frowned. "He's not that bad of a person."
"He's not, but he has a lot of enemies, Sage. I don't want you to live in a life where you must always be alert because you know that at any moment, someone could attack you or your loved ones," Junior told. "I don't want you to live the life I live."
"I've been hanging out with him for-" I said before being cut off.
"Well, stop," Junior commanded. "There's a lot of people gunning for Nick. If anyone even gets the idea that you two are friends, the person won't hesitate to kill you first, and then Nick."
"How do I know what you're saying is true? How do I know if you're just trynna stop is from being together?" I blurted.
"Wait, you two are together?!" Junior growled.
"Yes," I answered.
"Sage, for the love of Christ! You just got out of a heartbreaking relationship!" Junior complained.
"So?" I frowned.
"So you obviously don't know what you're doing," Junior answered. "You're only using Nick as a sub for Mike."
"Nick and Mike are two different people," I disagreed.
"Yeah, one is an asshole, and the other is a Mafia asshole gang leader/murderer," Junior pointed out. "Break up with him now!"
"Excuse me?" I asked with narrowed eyebrows. "I'm a grown woman and can make my own decisions."
"No, you're a little girl that just got out of highschool and don't know how to act," Junior corrected. "Mom and dad would want me to care for you to the best of my ability, so let me."
"You're the one who got me into this in the first place," I noted. "I'm not ending my relationship with Nick."
"You're not safe with him," Junior argued.
"How do you know that?" I asked. "I feel safe."
"Haven't you heard about the shootouts in the city?" Junior asked. "All were targeted to get Nick's attention. I'm out of state and know that. C'mon, Sage, open your eyes for once!"
"I like what I have going on," I argued, "but I also understand your concerns. I will open my eyes, but I'm not ending my relationship."
"Why are you so stubborn?" Junior sighed.
"Why are you so troublesome?" I questioned.
"I'm gonna get the stupid ring, and then Imma get you. We're gonna move to a quiet little area far away from the mess," Junior declared.
"We? You speak French now?" I asked.
"You're not funny, brat," Junior responded. "I gotta go, but remember what I said. I can't lose you too, sis."
The thought of losing Junior crippled me.
"Be safe too," I said. "I love you."
"I love you too," he said before hanging up.
I sat up and sighed. Nick and I needed to have a talk!
