Chapter 3 – Pick Ups
I ran out of the café Nathan following not long after, I’m pretty sure he had said something to George but I didn’t know what. I ran down the street before turning into an alley and collapsing against the wall until I was crouching as tears ran down my face.
“Maggie! Maggie! I’m so sorry” Nathan said picking me up and pulling me into a hug, he let me cry on his shoulder murmuring that I was too good for George in the first place. I looked up into his concerned gaze and wiped away the stray tears standing up; he took my hand as we began to walk home. He didn’t say anything but I didn’t want him to, he knew me too well.
As soon as we got back he made my favourite: hot chocolate, got a tub of Ben and Jerry’s and grabbed a comedy movie. Sometimes I felt like he was a girl best friend instead of a guy, but he knew how to cheer me up and I smiled in appreciation. For the first time since we got back I checked my phone, only to find ten missed calls and countless messages from George apologizing, one said: ‘babe it wasn’t what it looked like’. I had enough; I didn’t want to deal with him anymore so I sent a simple text back:
‘We’re over. Hope you and the blonde bimbo will live happily ever after, and it’s Maggie not babe’ I sent the text before blocking his contact number and more importantly blocking him from my life. Nathan smiled supportively as I showed him the text and handed me a spoon to kick off the Ben and Jerry’s feast. It was only just evening but that didn’t matter, I needed to get over him and Nathan was the one person I could count on to make me feel better.
“You know I’m glad you’re not with him anymore, now you can spend time with me 24/7” he said cheekily making me smile slightly, he chuckled and hit play on the movie – Paul. I hit him playfully in the arm which made him drop the ice cream off the spoon as he was about to eat it so it fell on his lap, I couldn’t help but giggle as he tried to get it off.
“Whatever” he mumbled under his breathe sending me further into laughter, he had already made me feel so much better. Seeing George kissing another girl had made me feel worthless and unwanted, like I wasn’t good enough, but Nathan had made all those feelings go away and put a smile on my face which I was grateful for.
“When are you going back to London?” I asked, I knew he still had another week left but I wasn’t exactly sure when he was due to go back. I would miss having my best friend around.
“A week tomorrow. We have a week in London before we go to the US for two weeks” he said running his hand through his hair. I knew he loved the fans and travelling, getting to meet everyone and seeing everything, but he’d told me not long ago that he always found himself missing home.
“Sounds like you’re going to be busy” I said and he nodded. All of a sudden his head snapped in different directions around them room, I looked at him slightly confused until I knew what he was looking at, my thoughts were confirmed with what Nathan did next.
“Eeeeeeeeaaaeeeeeh!” Nathan screeched while pulling a funny face and flapping his hands, I rolled my eyes but couldn’t help but laugh at his famous fly impression. He was so weird but I loved him to pieces!
“You’re meant to be a sloth not a fly!” I joked and this time he laughed.
“Well I’m sorry I can’t be the right type of creature for you” he said before leaning over and tickling my sides. I broke into a fit of laughter and tried to break from his grip but with no success, I begged for him to stop in-between laughter but he just ignored me. I must have been making a bit of noise because Nathan’s mum came in to see what was going on, when she saw Nathan tickling me to death she just sighed and walked back out the room again.
