Ethan and I sat there looking at each other, while occasionally glancing at the man. He wasn't in the room. Why wasn't he in the room? Is he trying to see if we'll try to run? Will he hurt us if we move? I didn't think too much of it, but I stood up and grabbed Ethan with me.
"We're going, now. Run like you're in football."
I checked the door to see if it was unlocked. Well, I guess we had some luck, cause it was. We held hands and ran. There were no trees in sight. Just road and grass. We followed the road for about a mile I'm guessing. How has the man not caught us?
We stopped running after a million years it felt like. We stood there with hands on our knees in astonishment. We're free. We escaped. We walked a little farther and we finally saw some trees. There was also a pay phone, but we didn't have money.
Wait. The store. Ethan should have the money from the store when we were going to buy food. I put my hand out in front of him and stopped him from walking.
"The money. Ethan the money from the store. Do you have it?"
His eyes lit up. He frantically checked his pockets for 25 cents. And just our luck, all he had was a twenty dollar bill. The phone didn't take bills. We kept walking in a slouch after that.
After a few more minutes of walking kind of fast, we started walking in the trees. Just in case the man was looking for us. We didn't talk much, I think we both were trying to process everything. It was kind of hard. A few more minutes of walking and my heart jumped out of my chest.
