Cassie
It was 5am, I hadn't got any sleep because Dally hadn't been home yet and I always tend to overthink things. I wrap myself in a small blanket and climb out my window, letting a slight breeze of cold air brush against my face and I inhale a breath of fresh air
I was having a good think when I heard a quiet knock on the door from down stairs, Immediately knowing who it was. I open the door to see Ponyboy
"Hiya Cassie" he greets me with a smile
"How do ya do kiddo" I take his hand and lead him upstairs and we both climb out the window and I wrap him in my blanketPony and I like to watch the sunrise together, we've been doing it for as long as I can remember. Pony was like a best friend to me, he was a few years younger but he sure as hell knew a lot for a kid.
"So what's been happening kid" I ask as the first colours appear In the sky
"I swear Cass, Darry hates me more and more everyday, he don't care about me. We used to get along just fine before mom and dad die-"I cut him off before he can finish his sentence "Pony, Darry loves you with all his heart kid. He's going through a rough patch, just give it time" I wrap my arm around his head and scruff his hair
We watch shades of orange and pink fill the sky
"How's Soda" I ask not taking my eyes off the colours, but I can feel pony looking at me
"He's back with Sandy"A pain stuvk my chest and weight dropping in my gut
"Again?" I accidentally yell
"Cass, trust me it ain't gon' last" pony puts his hand on my shoulderI was about to speak when I hear the door slam and someone clumsily ruffling through the lounge and loud unclear words
I look at Ponyboy and un suprisingly we both knew who it was. I roll my eyes before rushing down stairs, Pony following behind me
"Hey Pony!" Dallas yelling so loud the entire neighbourhood would be able hear. He had a bottle of beer in each hand and you could literally smell the alcohol on him
"You two having another date?" He laughs and I give him a cold glare.
Pony obviously not minding what Dally's saying. He knows we're just friends but that doesn't give Dally the right to get away with what he said
"Oh wait, that's right, you like Soda!" He shouts as loud as he possibly could
"Speaking of" Dally laughs and I turn around to see Soda standing in the doorwayI push my way past him and I walk down the road. Sodapop and I have been best friends for as long as I can remember, he's only a few months older than me and I know I shouldn't be stressing out like this but I've had enough of Dallas
"Blue!" I hear Soda calling to me. He's called me Blue almost all my life because my bright blue eyes. I carry on walking and he catches up to me
"You okay?" He looks at me and all I do is look at the ground
"You know he didn't mean any of that, he's tipsy that's all" he walks with me"He's an idiot" I scoff causing him to chuckle "Ya wanna go to the lot?" he asked. I nod
The lot was the gang's hangout I guess it's where we can ourselves without being judged. There were other places to hang around like the diner or the park but we barely had money to stay at the diner all the time and we left the park for lovers and kids. The lots just a safe space to talk.
I wasn't the mushy type to talk about my feelings or be soft, Dally used to tell me to get tough that way nothing would hurt you. But it wasn't as easy as just shutting off everything. I wish it was
I kept my mouth shut, leaving us sitting on our old couch in silence, apart from the trees rustling when he looks up "What's up, Cass?"
If there was one thing I loved about Sodapop Curtis, it was how big his heart was
"Nothing" I chuckle watching the last strokes of colour fade into a blue in the sky. I could feel Sodas eyes on me
"You and Pony have another sunrise date?" He looked at me and I roll my eyes "You best be shuttin' that mouth of yours or your gonna have a date with my fist" I say in a serious manner
He smiles "Okay, big girl" he chuckles reaching out his hand "C'mon, i best be getting you back home, you got school" I grab his hand and he pulls me up and we walk back home
