"Aha! Unless I am very much mistaken, the delegation from Beauxbatons approaches!" Dumbledore suddenly called out from the back row where the staff stood.
"Where?" Many students called out, looking around eagerly.
"There!" Someone shouted loudly, pointing over the forest.
Flying above the forest was an object that grew larger as it came near the castle.
"It's a dragon!" A first year girl shrieked.
"Don't be stupid... it's a flying house!" A boy hushed her.
The boys guess was closer. The object grew nearer and I realized it was a gigantic, powder blue, horse-drawn carriage. It was pulled by a dozen winged horses, each the size of an elephant. The first three rows of students jumped back as the carriage came to a rough landing with an almighty crash. Everything was still for a second before the door opened and a (rather attractive) boy in pale blue robes jumped down from the carriage. He bent down and fumbled with something before a set of golden steps unfolded from beneath it. He sprang back respectively when the largest woman any of us had ever seen emerged from the carriage. She seemed to be the same height as Hagrid.
Everyone's eyes followed the tall woman as she walked to greet Dumbledore. He began clapping and the students broke into applause too.
"My dear Madame Maxime, Welcome to Hogwarts." Dumbledore said as he took her outstretched hand and kissed it.
"Dumbly-dorr," she said in a deep voice. "I 'ope I find you well?"
"In excellent form, I thank you," he responded with a smile.
"My pupils," she gestured carelessly behind her.
We looked back and noticed that about a dozen boys and girls, all it seemed to be above the age of seventeen, emerge from the carriage. They began to shiver due to their fine silk robes (which held no warmth) and look up at Hogwarts with apprehensive glares.
"'As Karkaroff arrived yet?" Madame Maxime asked.
"He should be here any moment. Would you like to wait here and greet him or would you prefer to step inside and warm up a trifle?" Dumbledore said.
"Warm up, I think," she said and looked around, "But ze 'orses-"
"Our Care of Magical Creatures teacher will be delighted to take care of them the moment he has returned from dealing with a slight situation that has arisen with some of his other -er- charges."
"Blast-ended Skrewts," Lee muttered from next to Fred.
"What happened now?" George groaned.
"I've 'eard some of 'em escaped," A seventh year girl said from behind us.
"That'd be just perfect," Fred said sarcastically.
"Come," Madame Maxime's voice broke through the air as she called her students inside.
"D'ya think Durmstrang's gonna have flying horses too?" George asked as his eyes searched the sky.
"You never know..." I trailed off and shivered slightly.
"Here," Fred pulled his knitted cap off his head.
"No, Fred, it's fine-" I was cut off as he tucked the hat snug around my ears and gave me a crooked grin.
"See? Looks better on you anyways."
"The lake! Look at the lake!" Lee yelled suddenly as a muffled rumbling and sucking sound echoed from the darkness.
