There are people everywhere, and everyone seems to be in a big hurry. Jane passes by but she doesn't notice Victoria, she has her attention focused on a clip board and she's talking on the phone. The driver takes Victoria's luggage to the school while she goes to the garden in the back of the school.
As she gets closer she hears a lot of noise, people talking and something clicking. Even closer she sees lights flashing and realices the clicking is from cameras. Mal stands with her back against one of the columns in the garden surrounded by paparazzi and reporters, though there isn't much difference. They're all shouting questions at her and blinding her with their camera flashes. Mal looks wildly from one reporter to the next, her mouth half open but not a word coming out. Her hair's different it a lot blonder.
"You have ten seconds to leave my friend alone" Victoria calls out, she doesn't yell but everyone hears her and turns around
"Who are you?" One reporter asks and holds the microphone towards her
"Victoria Facilier, Queen of Vernelle" Victoria says. The reporters all start whispering "your ten seconds are almost up" she pops her lips on the last p. The reporters and paparazzi look at each other
"Four... three... two" Victoria growls her eyes glowing yellow. Everyone runs and they don't stop until they get to the entrance
"Thanks" Mal smiles at Victoria who opens her arms
"I've missed you" Victoria says and Mal walks into her hug.
"Victoria?" A voice says behind her making her stiffen
"King Benjamin" Victoria says turning around and bowing deeply
"Rise" Ben says calmly and she straightens out "welcome back" he gives her a small smile
"I missed you all" Victoria smiles "although that might not be the same for all of you" she says truthfully, not one ounce of regret in her voice for having killed nobles on her last visit.
"They've all understood why you did what you did" Ben says "and you have my royal pardon"
"That doesn't mean forgiveness" Victoria says sadly and gives him a small smile.
"No, it doesn't" Ben admits "you'll just have to accept it" she nods and Mal squeezes her hand
"So what's been going on with you two?" Victoria asks
"You haven't seen us on tv?" Ben asks
"I was bit busy putting my kingdom in order and avoiding all the assassination attempts" Victoria shrugs and smiles "that doesn't leave me much time for tv"
"What?!" Mal asks worriedly
"Don't worry about me everything's under control" Victoria smiles "Jeremy has my back" Jeremy bows at both Ben and Mal but doesn't say anything
"He's your..." Mal asks
"My personal bodyguard" Victoria says "Gustav, my head of military assigned him to me. He doesn't say much" she turns to look at him and Jeremy is as still as ever, Victoria chuckles
"I'm going to go to my room" Victoria smiles "go unpack"
"Sure" Mal smiles "Evie is in her room if you want to say hi"
"Thanks, I will. We'll talk later yeah?" Mal nods, Victoria smiles and heads back to the school. Once inside she passes by her former schoolmates, some don't even glance in her direction either from anger or because they don't recognize her. Reigning has changed her, she looks older and her hair is even more grey and white than before.
Others look at her and stare daggers at her back, others just look sad. Some even look at her like dogs who've been scolded. She nods at them and smiles at the few who give her shy smiles.
She stands outside Evie's room and takes a deep breath
"Knock knock" Victoria says knocking on the door frame and peeking inside. She finds Evie talking with Chad about his new cape and what kind of impression he wants to give. Doug looks bored to death and slightly annoyed.
"Knock knock?" Victoria says again stepping inside but Evie keeps on talking with Chad, Doug on the other hand stands and smiles
"Hey Victoria" he steps closer to her and Jeremy puts a hand over his sword
"Down boy" Victoria whispers and hugs Doug
"How are you?" He asks and they sit down
"A bit tired it was a long journey here" Victoria admits "but I saw Mal and Ben"
"Oh that's good" Doug smiles "Mal has been under a bit of stress. Well they both have"
"Why's that?" Victoria asks
"Well Ben has all these new responsibilities as king so that's tiring and Mal is like the lady of the court so that puts pressure on her as well, she even changed her hair" Doug explains and sighs
"Yeah I noticed" Victoria nods
"Victoria!" Evie shrieks suddenly having just realized she's there. She practically pushes Chad out of the way and throws herself at Victoria
"Hey Evie" Victoria smiles and hugs her tightly
"You're here" she says happily "I didn't know if you'd accept the invite" she says pushing some hair from her face
"Of course I came" Victoria smiles
"Great, you're here" Chad grumbles
"Hello Chad" Victoria smiles "you're still a jerk I see"
"You're still a murderer I hear" he snears and Jeremy grabs his sword and pulls it out halfway, Chad's eyes go to the sword and widen
"Watch your tongue boy" Jeremy warns "you'll address my Queen with respect or not at all" Chad nods slowly and swallows hard
"Chad come on time for practice" Jay says appearing suddenly he frowns when Chad doesn't move and steps inside
"Victoria" he says slowly
"Hey Jay" Victoria greets
"What's going on?" Jay asks
"Nothing" Victoria smiles and Chad shakes off his cape and stomps out the room
"See you later I guess" Jay says and follows Chad.
"So tell me everything that's happened since we last saw you" Evie says pulling her to her bed and sitting down
"It's a bit of a long story and I know you're busy" Victoria says slowly
"Oh don't worry about that I am the queen of multitasking" Evie laughs making Victoria smile.
