Stepping into the streets of the isle the mood is much different from Auradon. Everyone's mood changes immediatley, they all adopt guarded stances and give off a slightly intimitading aura. Ben of course has no idea how to do that and walks calmly and carefree, which attracts attention. Three kids crash into Evie who cries out in surprise and grabs two of the kids, one has her wallet in her hand
"Hey!" she says ready to scold them but looking at their dirty face and worn out clothes, she blinks away tears "take it" she whispers and lets them take her wallet. a couple of steps ahead they hear the ruckous of the market where everyone sells their wares and sometimes themselves. Vcitoria shudders as they pass and Jay puts a protective hand on her shoulder. In one alley they hear the noise of a mugging, in another they see a young girl offering her services, and in another dark alley a grouo of kids huddled together eating one apple between them all
"Welcome to the isle" Victoria says coldly to Ben. She buys some food from the nearest vendor, tipping him generously and gives the kids the food
"Stay safe" she whispers to them and rejoins the others.
"Come on, Mal's this way" Evie says walking ahead. Ben's eyes dart everywhere, taking everything in. They can all practically hear his heart break at the scene
"This is the isle?" he whispers after a while, they don't answer him "jesus" he whispers
"Now that you've seen it," Carlos starts
"What are you going to do about it?" Jay finishes. Ben's shoulder seem heavier with that question but that's a good thing. They keep walking but more and more people are staring at Ben. Victoria grabs his sleeve and pulls him into the next alley.
"What's wrong?" Ben asks and the others have a slightly confused look on their face
"Put your hands in your pocket and slightly hunch your shoulders forward" Victoria instructs, Ben looks confused but does as she says
"Now lean slightly sideways" Evie suggests
"Stop smiling" Carlos adds "frown or try to look bored"
"Also, narrow your eyes a bit as if you were angry" Jay pitches in
"I don't understand why I'm doing this" Ben says following their instructions
"You need to fake being an islander" Victoria explains "give off a certain vibe that means your trouble, that way people stay clear away from you"
"Yeah because if you start getting recognized then the whole island will know you're here" Jay says
"And so will their parents" Victoria adds and their faces grow dim
"I'll try" Ben says they step out of the alley and although people turn to look at them, Ben gives off a different vibe and they start to look away. They keep walking, they go around down town isle and head to the outer rim, opposite the docks. Mal and Uma are very territorial, they used to rule the isle so they live as far away from each other as possible.
They're walking past a small vendor cart when they pass a statue of Victoria's father Dr. Facilier. Carlos, Jay and Evie stop and bow their heads.
"Outsider!" Carlos yells, Victoria stops as well and throws Jay a punch which he dodges he grabs her arm and hold her against him, Victoria kicks out at Carlos who slides on the ground to avoid it. Jay lets go of Victoria and Evie throws a punch which she deflects and throws one back at her. They fight like that for a few seconds all three against Victoria who manages to hold her ground.
Jeremy watches from the shadows, amused. Ben stares at them very confused. They don't stop until Evie lands a punch on Victoria's jaw
"I give" she smiles and the others yells in victory "nice punch" Victoria tells Evie
"Thanks" she smiles proud of herself
"What was that?" Ben asks as they start walking again
"Isle tradition" Evie smiles
"In front of Facilier's statue people bow, the last one to bow is the outsider and the others have to land one punch on them" Jay says wickedly
"It's like a game" Carlos says "outsiders versus islanders to show that we're the best" Ben still looks confused but doesn't ask. He shakes his head and crashes into someone
"Sorry" Ben apologizes, the guy turns around and everyone silently curses, it's Gil, Uma's minion.
"No problem man" Gil answers "hey you look familiar" Ben swallows and takes a step back
"I don't think so" he says lowering his head
"I've seen you on tv" Gil says slowly and a light clicks on in his empty brain "you're Ben" he smiles
"No" Ben says roughly
"Scram Gil" Jay says stepping forward
"Well well well" Gil's smile grows "if it isn't the traitors"
"Beat it Gil" Carlos says joining Jay
"You two knuckle heads don't scare me" Gil scoffs growing his arms over his chest showing off his muscles, vain just like his father.
"What about me?" Victoria says sweetly "scared of me little Gil?" Jay and Carlos smile and let her through. Gil's smile falls off his face and he takes half a step back
"Victoria" he whispers
"The one and only" she smiles "it's been a while Gil"
"You don't have magic here" Gil says retaking his half step forward Victoria smiles
"Who says I don't?" Her eyes flash yellow and she holds up her hand, fire appears in it, the flames lick her fingers and her smile widens
"Boo" she jerks forward scaring Gil so much he stumbles and falls on his butt. Victoria closes her hand and the fire disappears
"Tell you're father hello" she says stepping past him, the others follow her and only stop when they're a couple of blocks away. At Mal's place.
"Nice work Victoria" Carlos smiles and lightly punches her shoulder
"Thanks" she smiles
"How did you do that?" Ben asks "there's no magic on the isle"
"No" Victoria agrees "but my father is a master of illusion and flashy moves"
"So you don't have magic?" Ben asks
"Not here; Jeremy soaked my hand in alcohol and my rings spark if they're rubbed together" Victoria shows them the rings and puts one on one hand and the other on the other hand
"Who's Jeremy?" Evie asks confused
"My personal guard" Victoria smiles proudly and Jeremy emerges from the shadows scaring Carlos
"Pleased to meet you" Jeremy says and bows, Victoria nods at him and he disappears back in the shadows
"Nice" Jay says. Evie rolls her eyes and picks up a stone. She aims it at a sign that says 'caution flying rocks' and hits it spot on. That activates a switch which lifts the door. She motions to Ben to go up
"Good luck Romeo" Victoria smiles and he goes up.
