Jesse had more fun than she expected making Ethan's thumbnails- a little bit of Photoshop mixed with a few graphic design tricks and they were looking as good as she could hope.
Ethan loved them too- even crediting Jesse with them at random during his videos. "Kickass thumbnail for this video brought to you by my awesome friend Jesse Grayson, by the way," he'd say, grinning like the Cheshire Cat whenever he mentioned her name.
After a week or two, they started hanging out together at Ethan's apartment, brainstorming up video ideas and chatting together. They could spend hours lounging around in his living room, eating takeout and laughing about stupid things together. Jesse was happier than she'd ever been.
Then it was August 2nd, and Jacksepticeye posted a fantastically edited video featuring his dark persona, Antisepticeye. Jesse was at home that day, lounging around her apartment and procrastinating cleaning the kitchen. It was well worth the procrastination to watch that video, she decided- the Anti features were always fantastically creepy.
Scrolling down the YouTube page, however, a video caught her eye.
The Monster Inside Me, the title read. It was a CrankGameplays video.
"That's odd..." Jesse muttered, clicking on the video. The thumbnail was of Ethan, hunched in a dark space with eyes darker than coal. But Ethan always told Jesse about the videos he was making, and this had never come up.
The description caught her eye. I feel strange...
"What?" Jesse raised her eyebrows. She racked her brain- what was the name of the dark-CrankGameplays identity, again? Could he be making an appearance?
The comment section was full of fellow fans theorizing about the same thing. They suspected he was working with Jack, which would explain the fortuitous timing. BlankGameplays, they said. We're going to see BlankGameplays!
Jesse laughed nervously. The video had none of the editing glitches of Jack's, and Ethan seemed as fine as always. He took to Twitter explaining the creepy thumbnail, which he later changed, and the description, which he later changed, too.
Hey Erica, Jesse texted him jokingly, just to make sure. Nice thumbnail...You're not pulling an Antiseptic on us, are you? xD
Ethan's typing bubble appeared. It flashed, glitching as Jesse watched. She tapped her screen. Must have been a bug.
nNo, loll i was jjust messsng aroundd on pPhotoshhop, he replied. Whoa damn phone lol the keyboard just freaked out on me
Oh gotcha lmao, Jesse replied. You gotta tell me if you do decide to do any dark persona stuff- I'd love to help!
Dunno when I'd do that, but if I do, u would be first to hear about it, Ethan texted. I bet it would be AWESOME! Ur the best, Jesse :D
Jesse's chest felt warm. Thanks, Ethan.
