Jesse was going to be gone for a weekend- she'd fly out Friday night and be back Sunday in time for dinner. Surely Ethan could handle himself for that long. He was an adult, she decided as she walked into the kitchen.

Ethan was trying balance a spoon on his nose. "Jesseeeee!" he squealed, crossing his eyes as he tried to look at the spoon. Jesse laughed, shrugging off her worry.

The plane trip out to San Francisco was uneventful, and soon she was stepping out of the airport and into a brand new city. She took a deep breath, putting Ethan and YouTube behind her. This was a weekend of art.

That evening, all of the featured artists in the showroom were meeting for an early-access view of the pieces. The showroom's hostess, the wiry-haired, bright-eyed Miss Casey, graciously welcomed all the artists and expressed her excitement at the new exhibition. Jesse's paintings had arrived a few days previous in pristine condition, much to her relief. Her heart glowed when she saw them perched on the wall.

"Those are some of my favorites," Miss Casey commented, seeing Jesse pause in front of her paintings.

"Oh?" Jesse's heart soared. "That's- thank you! I'm... I'm Jesse Grayson, ma'am," she said quickly, stepping aside.

"No kidding!" the woman laughed. "You're quite an artist. In fact..." the woman fished a card from her pocket, pressing it into Jesse's hand. "Give me a call in a month or two- we're working on a project I'd love for you to help with. What do you say?"

"I'd be delighted," Jesse gasped, smiling. "Thank you, ma'am."

Miss Casey laughed again. "Don't mention it, dear."

Suddenly, the lights flickered in the showroom. Jesse's heart skipped a beat.

"What was that?" she gasped, bracing herself for the worst.

"Ah, I'm sure someone needed to get my attention," Miss Casey smiled. "Don't worry about it, dear. I'll be heading to the back- don't forget to call me, Miss Grayson."

"Of course not," Jesse promised as the woman walked away. She shook off the cold knot that had settled in her stomach, trying to clear her mind. She was just being paranoid- everything was fine.
