Through aggressive and borderline self-destructive driving, Jesse made it home in under 5 hours.
The tires screamed as she drifted around the corner into her parking spot. She threw on the brake with a huff, slammed the car door, and barreled into the apartment building.
Jesse skidded to a halt in front of the elevator. Its blue buttons glowed like eyes.
She growled under her breath and headed for the stairs.
Ethan came to just as his audience started panicking. He'd only been out for a moment- just long enough to cause them alarm. The chat was flashing like crazy, cycling through the thoughts of thousands of concerned fans.
"I'm fine, guys," Ethan said, his voice hoarse. "I've been really tired lately- I'm going to cut this off here. I need to get some water and some sleep," he explained, feeling dizzy again already. "Jesse's going to be back soon, so don't worry," he added, as if talking to himself. "I'm sorry, guys, but I really need to stop this here. I'll be back tomorrow if I can."
Feeling sick, he ended the stream.
The YouTuber stumbled out of his studio, his head spinning. His feet wouldn't obey him- he was staggering like a drunk. It seemed as if the world was tearing itself apart. Ethan groaned, feeling his knees buckle. He grasped vaguely at the coffee table as he went down, falling to the floor. The world grew dim, and he faded out of consciousness where he lay.
Jesse burst through the front door.
"Ethan!" she shouted, running over to him and kneeling next to his body.
He sat up slowly- looking drugged or sick. "Jesse?" he garbled, rubbing his eyes with a heavy hand.
"Let me see your eyes, Ethan," Jesse said quickly, tugging at his arm.
Ethan dropped his hand, looking Jesse in the eyes with a dull, empty stare.
His eyes glowed blue.
