The Talk

The dinner was lovely, and fast. When we are done Camila pulls me upstairs and drags me to her room.

"Camila." I say as she closes her door, "I'm really sorry about today, I didn't know it meant that much to you."

"It's ok, I told you I'm just really sad. Nothing else." she says as she's sitting on her bed.

"Are you still sad? Because that's not okay for me." I say with dramatic and stupid hand gestures.

"Umm half, since you're here and it made me feel so much better." She says relaxing her head and looks at her ceiling.

I join her on her bed, "how can I make it up to you?" I ask.

"Umm, you can sleep over and we will definitely be good." she says looking at me.

"Camila, it's a school night." I say.

"Lauren, we go to the same school we can just go together." she says closing up to me, "genius."

"Pssh, you genius." I say back as a tease, "lemme ask my mom"

"Okay, fingers crossed." she says as doing so.

I take out my phone and before calling, I ask her, "wait, does your mom agree?"

"Of course! I have the best parents ever, they say yes to everything that makes me happy." she says with a little more excitement.

"Okay?" I say as I dial my mother.

"hi mom!" I say as she picks up, "did you eat yet?" I ask shit on purpose to satisfy her. She says yes, "ok cool, me too! Umm mom? Can I sleep over at this friend's house? She goes to my school so I can just go to school from here and it's not even far from home."

She hesitates. And normally that means yes.

"Do you have your uniform with you?" she asks, "no, but she will lend me some." I answer.

"Fine, since you finished all your- wait your school bag is here." she realizes something that I forgot to worry about. Shit.

"Ok mom, I'm just gonna stop at our house to grab it, and yes I did finish all, please mom" I say.

"Okay, see you tomorrow." I scream inside my heart. "Yes! Thanks mom! Love you! Bye." I hang up.

Camila looks like she is about to lose it with her held in scream. Then she waves her hands and lets it out. "yayyy!" she says. Jumping on me.

"You have to lend me pajama and uniform." I say slightly pushing her away.

"No prob" she squeezes back in on me. I enjoy it and lie down with her in my arms. This is nice.

And weird, with the fact that we're not dating.

I wonder for a second, if mom didn't stop me, who knows how close we would've been, would we have kissed and come out in school? I step out of it when I hear Camila suck her nose.

"What's wrong?" I ask as I try to see her face hiding in my neck.

"I'm still sad." She's whimpering.

"Why?" I ask, putting us in a talking position.

She thinks for a second as I keep looking at her.

"Because you're not mine." she says with her head looking down and I freeze, "because I still like you." She finishes and looks up to me.

I think my jaw dropped at the words of that sentence, my heart suddenly starts to speed. I actually feel the same way, she's been in my head every second since she left us in Starbucks. Even doing homework, I stop at some questions because I get distracted by the thoughts of her.

I hold her hand and look her in the eye, "really?"

She does the same, "yes" then looks back at our hands, "and to be honest, I really want you to be my girlfriend. It just calms me to know that you are mine and I'm yours."

I smile at the sight of her cute little shy face, waiting for my reaction. "Camila you are so cute" she blushes and chuckles, "you know that?" I ask.

"Yeah, I believe your words." she smiles at me, proud.

"Okay Camila, since you spoke your feelings out I'm gonna too." I hold my breath, trying to get my words together, "Literally the first time I saw you, I had the urge to get to know you, and not a lot of people do that to me. And when I finally had you as my friend, I was so so happy." I pause. As Camila is still patiently waiting for me to finish.

"And every time we text or talk to each other, I always have a smile on my face, because I know it's you on the other side. Every time I see you, my heart speeds and I get so excited." I breathe, "so what I'm actually trying to say is, I still like you too, I always can't wait to go to school because I get to see you."

"Who knows what would've happened if my mom didn't break us up." I continue.

"Yeah, I wish you didn't have to do that." She says coming towards me for a hug.

She basically puts her whole weight on me, I feel so loved. I put my hands around her back. "Me too" I say.

Suddenly there's a knock on the door and we immediately break apart.

"Come in!" says Camila.

It's Sofia.

"Camila, will you play with me?" says Camila's sister.

"Sofi, I'm kind of busy with my friend here. Can you go play with Mama?" Camila says.

Sofia makes a sad face and leaves.

Camila turns her head back to me, "so, where were we?"

"We were hugging." I say sarcastically with a small laugh. Then I get a bit more serious, "Dinah said my mom needs time, so maybe later she'll get over me dating you and we can still date." I say with hope.

"I sure hope so." She says standing up. "I'm gonna tell my mom you're staying over, you grab something from my closet to wear as pajamas yeah?"

"Okay" I get up and she leaves the room.

I open her closet door and get attacked by the lovely scent of Camila's clothes.
