"Is it weird that I can read a whole book in less than a day?" I asked looking over to Shane
He shook his head. "No"
"Because this one Sunday I literally started and finished three books in one day." I said
He chuckled "Really?" I nodded "Wow, I like to read, but I don't think I could've done that." He chuckled slightly.
I sighed as I looked back up at the sky. It was currently lunch and we decided to go outside and lay on the field, and since we both had a free period next we were going to stay like this. We were laying on our backs beside each other looking up at the clouds moving at a slow pace while chatting.
It's been two weeks since Shane and I have met and everyday it feels like we're drifting into one. I admit that my feelings are more than just friends. I like him, but I could never tell him that. A guy like Shane would never like a girl like me.
"Horror or comedy?" He asked suddenly.
"Depends."
"On what?"
I shrugged taking in a breath. "I don't know I like both horror and comedy. It's hard to decide." I said
"Have you seen the movie 'The Conjuring'?" He asked
I looked at him "No, but I want to. Have you?" He shook his head.
"No, but I saw it on Redbox. I was thinking of renting it this weekend. You want to come?"
"Sure"
"Cool"
"Cool" I smiled, but was soon wiped off my face, literally.
Just then something wet was poured on top of me. I screamed as I sat up wiping the liquid away from my eyes. I looked up to see Kelsey, Trevor, and Nick all laughing. I looked down to see chocolate milk all over me. I looked at Shane to see him wide eyed.
"Shane, why are you still hanging out with this filthy freak. You should really join us." Said Kelsey as she walked over to Shane and pulled him up. She trailed her finger down his chest slowly.
I felt tears well up in my eyes and soon escape. I grabbed my bag and ran inside to the nearest girls bathroom, while tears ran down my cheeks rapidly. When I made it to the bathroom I checked to see if anyone else was in here then locked the door. I threw my bag on the ground in furry and slid my back down the wall sobbing.
'You're ugly'
'Why don't you just kill yourself, no one would miss you'
'No one will love you'
'You should just give up now'
'You're worthless'
The familiar voices ran through my head from the people who were so much against me.
"What did I ever do to them?" I asked myself
Just then I was startled by a pounding on the bathroom door.
"Amelia, open up! I know you're in there!" I heard Shane's voice yell from the other side of the door.
"Go away!" My voice scratched
"No, open the door, please" He pleaded
I wiped my eyes as I stood up slowly and unlocked the door then sat back in my previous spot looking down at my knees that were against my chest.
I heard the door open and close then the sound of the lock. I heard footsteps walk towards me and crotch beside me.
"Amelia?" I heard Shane whisper
"I know" I voice cracked as I was still looking down. "You want to ditch me for Kelsey and the others. I understand." I tried not to sound hurt, but I failed miserably.
"What? Amelia, I would never do that to you. You're like my best friend, and I would never ditch a best friend." He said
I looked up at him. "Really?"
"Really, now come on I'll let you wear my sweatshirt" He said then pulled out his sweatshirt from his bag.
He helped me wash most of the milk from my hair.
"Maybe you should take that shirt off so you're not sticky all day." He suggested. I hesitated for a moment. "Don't worry I won't look." He said. He handed me his sweatshirt and turned around. I quickly took off my sticky shirt and slid on his sweatshirt which was way bigger than me, but at the same time really cozy. I pulled the sleeve up to my nose and sniffed. It smelled just like him.
"You done?" He asked
"Oh, yeah" I put down my arm quickly.
He turned around and froze. "Wow" He stared
"What?" Did I look bad?
"You look great in my sweatshirt." That caused the heat to go to my cheeks making me look down. "You're also cute when you blush" He added
"Shut up" I nervously chuckled
"Just telling the truth" He said
"I don't want to go to class" I sighed sitting back down against the wall
"Well," He trailed off sitting beside me. "what if we skip?"
"Skip class?" He nodded. "I've never done that." I admitted
"Well, there's a first for everything. So, what do you say. Will you skip with me?" He stood up and held his hand out for me to grab.
I looked from his hand to his face and back again. What the heck. YOLO! I grabbed his hand with a smirk and he pulled me to my feet. He took both our bags and we went to his locker. He put both our bags inside and then we snuck out the back doors. I was stiff until we were about a mile away from the school.
"I can't believe I'm doing this." I said
"You want to go back?" He asked
"No way" I shook my head.
"Good because I have a surprise for you."
"What's the surprise?" I asked
"If I told then it wouldn't be a surprise anymore, now would it." He smirked.
"Fine"
He smiled as he grabbed onto my hand, making me blush, and led me down to the side walk.
We talked about random things until he placed his hands over my eyes
"What are you doing?" I asked as a laugh escaped my lips.
"Leading you to the surprise." He whispered then helped me walked another mile.
"On three, okay. One... Two... Three" His hands removed from my eyes showing the sight before me.
I gasped.
