"Amelia, dinner's ready!" I heard Daddy yell from the back door. I got up from the ground and grabbed my bag and went inside. I ignored my Dad's eyes as I set my bag by the stairs and went to the table in the kitchen. I sat down in my normal seat which happened to be right in front of Dad. I didn't look up as I got my plate of food and started to eat once everyone else had theirs, too.
"So, how was school, Lia?" Daddy asked
"Amazing" I said still looking down as I put some broccoli in my mouth.
"What happened that made it amazing?" Daddy asked. I shrugged.
"Does this have to do with Shane?" Katy teased
"Shut up, Katy."
"Oooooohhhhh, so it does."
"Shut up."
"Lia and Shane kissing in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G!" Katy sung
"Shut up, you're so annoying" I yelled annoyed by her
"I know you are, but what am I" I groaned as she smirked
"Calm down kids." Daddy chuckled
I looked at him. "It's not funny, she's so annoying."
"Stop calling your sister annoying and eat your dinner." He said. I groaned as I continued to eat my dinner.
"So, was it Shane? Is that why today was so amazing?" Daddy asked after a couple minutes.
I groaned. "I thought we were over this topic."
"I'm just wondering."
"Yes, if you have to know." I blushed looking down at my plate.
"Ooooooohhhhhhhh" Katy dragged out. I sent her a glare causing her to stop but a muffled laugh was audible.
"What did he do that made today so amazing?" Kevin asked
"Nothing much, we just hung out and talked. He's so nice and funny and sweet." I said feeling even more heat rise to my cheeks
"Looks like someone has a crush." Katy teased.
"Daddy, please tell her to stop." I begged him
"Katy, stop teasing your sister."
"Thank you"
We continued to eat dinner while everyone else talked about their day. When we finished I grabbed my IPod and ear buds then went outside. I stuck them into my ears then began to play music.
I didn't realize how late it was until I felt someone sit beside me. I pulled one ear bud out and looked beside me to see Dad. I sighed as I stuck the ear bud back into my ear and turned my attention back to the sweet melody. A few minutes later the music left my ears and was filled with silence. I looked up to see that Dad was holding my IPod in his hand. He had turned the music off.
"Why did you turn it off?" I asked irritated.
"Oh, so now you want to talk to me." He said
"Can you just give it back." I said
"No, we need to talk."
I sighed as I took out my ear buds. I looked at the bird that stood a yard away from me. It was looking around as if it was lost. Like he was in a whole different world. I feel you little bird.
"Why did you skip school?" He asked bringing my attention back to him.
I didn't look at him as I answered. "Because I didn't feel like being even more humiliated than I already was."
"Who were you with?"
"Shane"
"What did you two do?"
"We went to this really beautiful place and talked."
"Daddy said that Shane asked you to go on a date with him."
I looked down smiling. "Yeah"
"Do you like him?"
I looked up at him for the first time. He was looking at me with so much love, as in daddy-daughter love. "Yeah, I like him a lot. Like, a lot, a lot" I said
He sighed "Then I approve. As long as you're happy, I'm happy." He said wrapping an arm around my shoulders and pulling me to his chest. I wrapped my arms around him and hugging him back.
"Dad?"
"Yeah"
"How long am I grounded for?" I asked
He sighed again. "You're off groundation" He said
My arms tightened around him. "Thank you. Thank you. Thank you." I repeated.
"Yeah, yeah." He said digging into his pocket and handed me my phone. I took it and put it beside me. I wrapped my arms around him and kissed him on the cheek.
"I love you, dad, you know that right?" I said
"I love you, too."
"Thanks for taking me in when no one else wanted me." I whispered
I felt his arms tighten around me. "Of course."
A few minutes later he stood up and stretched. "I'm heading to bed. I'm beat." He kissed my head then went back inside.
I grabbed my phone and went to Shane and I's messages. I clicked the message space and texted him.
Dad and I had a heart-to-heart sorta. OFF GROUNDATION!!! -Amelia
I laid back down and looked up at the sky. It wasn't that dark out, but the stars were starting to come out. A couple minutes later I felt my phone buzz. I looked at it to see Shane had texted back.
YES!! So wat r u doin now? - Shane
Just layin in the grass lookin up at the sky -Amelia
I waited about a minute until he texted back.
Wish I could b there. That's like our thing. LOL - Shane
I laughed to myself. I looked at the time at the top of the screen to see it was only seven at night.
Come over - Amelia
A minute later I got a text back
You sure? -Shane
Defiantly - Amelia
Then I got a response.
B there in 10 -Shane
I smiled as I thought about us staring at the stars at night laying next to each other.
