Distractions

I fell for your stare

Your effortless hair

Golden waves of perfection

Burned through me, you infection

I look into your pretty eyes

Looking for a single lie

Something to make you the same

As the others who forgot my name

But your smile has got me distracted

I'm taking things for granted

And soon I forget

Even though I'll regret

What I'm about to let you do

I'm not stopping my heart

But it's not as if I can choose

You'll tear me apart

Like an old pair of shoes

That you'll find again someday

Shining amongst seas of decay

I'll be in your mind, fresh and new

Like a perfect morning glistening with dew

And maybe you'll smile, and think of my laugh

Or the long forgotten poems I wrote on your behalf

But though time goes fast

Opportunities are vast

I may not win this war

But darling, you're worth fighting for
