If only the flowers
That bloomed as I walked
Trailing behind me in bold, bright hues
Lush greens, rich purples, and royal blues
Would not wilt, each time you came around
With your awful weeds and pungent browns
My golden garden, falling to the ground
Disappearing elegantly, without a sound.
You planted new seeds in me.
You planted tears of jealousy
You taught me what it was to envy
With everything I could never be.
With your gates, sweeping
With your vines, creeping
Up towers stories high
I look up.
Until I break my neck to see the sky
That you stole from my very own mind
I look down.
With the fear that you will take my crown
For I am the water that flows in the sea
Creating waves in the world that has done so much for me.
For I am the reason that flowers still grow
In the cracks of sidewalks and driveways and roads
For I am the reason to keep my head up high
Because my dreams reach much higher than your towers in the sky.
