Kate was sort of staring at Javi like she hadn't heard him right. How could he have forgotten her? They had become such an integral part of each other's lives over the past four years, and even before. He had to be seriously joking. Kate felt her heart beat harder and harder, her chest tightening.
"You don't remember me?" Kate asked, her green eyes dilating in fear some as she moved her hand to her chest. Her voice was cracked, broken, and clearly devastated. She felt the tightening in her chest, the fear instantly setting in again.
Javi glanced to her hands, noticing how tense and upset his words seemed to make the woman, the woman who identified herself as Kate. Kate was unbeknownst to him due to his baseball career, or so he thought. He remembered being on odds and ends with David for quite some time, but receiving a call that his brother was marrying a woman, and it was happening quick.
She sure was /a lot/ better looking than David's last wife, and he was shocked she would even lower herself into David's league. Javi couldn't help but notice how attractive she was, even despite the panic in her eyes.
"Whoa..whoa...slow down there...Kate...Kate?" Javi asked, watching her with some interest and attention as she dropped her hand from her chest.
"We'll talk about this....There has to be a reason you're in my bed...and I don't remember you. I have a thick head, but I didn't think it was that thick." Javi joked moving his hand to touch the baseball sized swelling on the back of his head.
"Ow..." Javi spoke, quickly dropping his hand as he began to put some of the pieces together. "This is probably why..."
Javi tensed, moving to feel his face now, running his fingers over the careful stitching. He winced as he did so, glancing to Kate as he dropped his hand and seeing her watching him with total heartbreak.
He couldn't remember the last time anyone watched him like that. Let alone the last time someone cared that much about him.
Javi instinctively reached out his hand, taking hers in his. "Hey....we'll get through this. Okay? Just need to figure all this out."
Kate spoke, glancing down to their hands and relaxing for just a moment. Even Javi; who had no memory, of their love was still caring and worried for her when she was upset. Kate managed the faintest smile as she gave his hand a squeeze.
"You do have a thick head..." Kate spoke, in response to his comments, before continuing on. "I don't think you'd even believe me if I told you."  Kate moved her free hand to wipe her tears away, and  Javi was dropping her hand to use as well. She felt so empty, seeing the confusion in his eyes.
"Maybe not, but we've got to try, right?" Javi asked, confirming her fears that he truly might not believe her if she told him everything. What if he wasn't able to open his heart to love her again? Kate couldn't bear the thought.
Kate felt like she still couldn't catch her breath, her breathing picking up as she moved to lean back on the headboard of the  bed.
"I....can't handle this....I can't....I can't." Kate spoke, literally having a panic attack. She began to speak, her eyes unable to look at Javi like this, so they focused on the wall.
Her voice came out fast, full of passion and worry. "You're /my/ boyfriend....You're my love. You're Javier García. You played for the Orioles...before, but you got in trouble for gambling. David grew angry with you...But you came back...eventually when your Pa was dying. You /loved/Mari...and love Gabe more than anything. You are a protector...You like your coffee black...You don't like pickles...and love sleeping with a blanket no matter how hot or cold it is. You like...dogs instead of cats....and chocolate over vanilla."  Kate spoke, tears flooding down her cheeks as she thought about so many things that were innately Javi.
