Ash and Serena have settled down in Ash's hometown of Pallet. However, Serena isn't so content with the life she is living. What will happen when she starts debating what could bring a spark back to her life? Will Ash stay as a gym trainer in Pallet...
Ash and I started heading towards this new professor's house. It was seemingly close on the map. However, Ash and I may have underestimated the actual length from the airport to the lab. This walk was a lot longer than either of us had anticipated, but not by much. What we thought would take ten minutes, instead took about fifteen to twenty after we set out. It was still daylight out, but getting close to the sunset. We walked up to the house and knocked then waited patiently. After a moment or two, this man came to the door. He was wearing a lab coat, that he left open and he had no shirt on underneath that. He also wore some tropical looking shorts as well. "Alola! You two must be Ash and Serena, correct? Clemont and Bonnie talked about you while they were here." Ash nodded, "You're Professor Kukui?" The professor nodded then gave a chuckle, "Why, yes I am. I study Pokémon moves. It's always great to see what kind of moves work best for a certain trainer. That's why I study, to help new trainers and Pokémon figure out what moves work best for them. Although, I bet you know quite enough about what moves work for you. Especially with that Greninja of yours. I've seen the video Professor Oak sent me. That is quite amazing!" Ash replied, "Thank you very much, Professor. Would you happen to know how we get some Alolan starters or where Bonnie and Clemont would be?" The professor nodded, "I do know that Bonnie and Clemont went looking for more Pokémon for Bonnie's team. They said they would stay near the nearest Pokémon center and wait for you. As for the starter's, I can provide them to you, so come on in." He stepped out of the way and let us in. At this point, I may have been staring at the professor's chest a little longer than I should have. I've never seen someone wear clothing like that, much less a professor.
We stepped inside to this small tropical shack that the professor calls his lab. "This is a lab," I asked curiously. The professor laughed and nodded, "Well, yes. I study pokemon moves so most of my research is done by watching battles. Whether they be done in front of me or on tape, like in Ash's case. I typically travel with some trainers during their island challenge and watch them battle and get better." Ash and I looked at each other then at the professor and we both said, "Island challenge?" The professor smiled and explained what this was. Instead of gyms, there were various small trials and then there was a grand island trial after the small island trials had been completed. I saw Ash's eyes sparkle when this concept hit him. It was new to both of us and I can tell that it excited him.
The professor led us to his actual lab part of the shack. There on a table stood three pokeballs. I knew from my own experience that these were the Alolan starters. Every professor either displayed the Pokémon or their pokeballs for new trainers. Professor Sycamore had all three Kalos starters out roaming when I met Fennekin.
The professor went behind the table and released the Pokémon from their pokeballs. One was a green and brownish ball-shaped bird, the others were a blue seal, and a black and red cat. "These are the Alolan starters. This is Rowlet, a very sleepy, but effective grass type Pokémon." He lifted up the Rowlet and handed him to us to hold. "They are very hard Pokémon to wake from slumber, similar to Snorlax. With a good trainer, they will be alert and ready when they need to be." The professor went back to the table and Ash put Rowlet down. Kukui petted the cat Pokémon, "This is Litten, a fire Pokémon. They are weary of their trainers at first, taking some time to get used to their new partner." I went up to the Litten and stroked its fur. It initially hissed at me, but calmed after I rubbed its mane. It was cute, but also a very intimidating pokemon. The professor went up to the blue seal, who was making a bubble from its nose, clearly the water type. The bubble burst and water sprayed the professor. He laughed as he shook his coat of the water, "Finally, this little goofball here it Popplio. It is a very cute pokemon and they are known to easily get along with kids, since they are so playful. Now, that's all the starters I do have a gift for the two of you and an extra for Serena."
The professor disappeared for a moment and came back a little over a minute later, holding a pokeball, and having something hover behind him. "This fella, is Rotom-Dex. A scientist from Kalos made this pokedex special so Rotom could fit inside and help trainers. I figured, who else should receive on then the Ash Ketchum. He will help the two of you along your adventure here in Alola. Now, Serena, Professor Sycamore sent me this pokeball, with a note from your mother. She hopes it'll help you in your adventures." He handed me the pokeball and note. I read the note while Ash and Rotom-Dex got aquainted with each other. The note read, "Serena, I was on my way to a race when I found this gem alone and abandoned. I used my only pokeball at the time to catch her. I promised her that you would be the absolute perfect trainer for her. Take care of her and be patient with her. It seems a previous trainer abandoned her near where I found her. Love, Mom" I tossed the pokeball on the ground and out came a pokemon, I recognized from TV. I could not remember the name of it. The professor spoke up, "What a good time for Rotom to show what he can do. Rotom?" The Dex spoke up after, "Yes Sir!" It showed an image of the same pokemon but with a slight color variation, "Gardevoir, the Embrace Pokemon, Gardevoir will use all of its psychic energy to protect a Trainer it has made a deep connection with." A Gardevoir? My mom caught a Gardevoir for me. "What kind of trainer would abandon a Gardevoir?" The professor looked at Gardevoir then at me before Ash broke the silence, "Why does this one look different from the one Rotom showed?" I wondered the same thing as Gardevoir and I kept staring at each other. She did look different from the one in the Dex. Rotom spoke to Ash, "That's because this Gardevoir is a shiny Pokémon. Shiny Pokémon have a slightly different appearance than their normal counterparts." I heard this then extended my hand out to the Pokémon as I introduced myself, "Hi, Gardevoir! My name is Serena, and this is Ash, who is my love." Gardevoir seemed to calm down after it heard my name. She extended her arm and I shook her hand gently. I calmed her, "I don't know what exactly happened to you, but I promise like my mom said, that I will take good care of you." I heard Ash's voice behind me, "Yes, she will great care of you!" Gardevoir hugged me after. She was really beautiful She had hair that looked blue and a kind of dress look to her body that was black. She looked really elegant.

"Now, with that mystery solved, it is time to choose your starters. Since I have so many of these Alolan starters, you can divide the three among yourselves," Kukui said. I replied, "Well, I have Gardevoir so Ash can take two pics." Ash commented, "Ladies first. You take your pick, Serena." I smiled, and spoke to Kukui, as I picked my starter up, "I'll take Popplio!" The professor handed me Popplio's pokeball as Popplio made a honking sound with a smile as I picked it up. "Awesome! I get to take Rowlet and Litten!" I put the pokeballs in my bag and Ash put his on his belt. "Now that this is taken care of, I believe you two have some old friends to catch up with. I hear Bonnie is quite eager to battle you, Ash. I may have to see that one for myself and see this new Greninja before my own eyes!" Ash's eyes glimmered with excitement as he hurriedly rushed for the door. I asked, "Where is the nearest pokemon center?" The professor pointed in the direction we came after we all got outside, "It is that way, past the singular house. My cousins Sun and Moon live there. I gave them both their starters today too." As he finished his statement, Ash took off in the direction of the pokemon center. Gardevoir and I took off after him after taking Kukui for everything. A new adventure has started for us, with our new pokemon. I can't wait to meet Clemont and Bonnie again!
