As we headed to the nearby Pokémon center, I could feel the anticipation to start this quest and meet our friends again. It will be a great one, to say the least! I walked with Gardevoir standing next to me, keeping close to me as if she were a shy girl at school. It almost reminds me of when I first met Ash again in Kalos. I was super anxious at the time, but when it came time to actually speak to him, I felt scared and nervous that he wouldn't have the faintest clue as to who I was. Sadly, he didn't at first, but all I needed to do was refresh his memory of our childhood encounter. The rest, after that, is how we built up our love.
We were nearing the center, as we had passed the professor's cousin's house. The Pokémon center was within eyeshot now. We continued walking, Popplio in my arms, Gardevoir next to me, somewhat clinging now, almost as if she is scared of something. Ash had all his Pokémon out of their balls for now. Rowlet seemed eager to fly around but was staying in close proximity to us. Pikachu, as per usual, was on Ash's shoulder. Greninja and Litten were walking along either side of Ash. Rotom-dex was in Ash's bag, to "save energy." I walked as I spoke to Ash, "What are you gonna do when we see Bonnie and Clemont again, Ash?" Ash chuckled almost as if he were planning this battle out in his head, "I'll battle Bonnie with Litten and Rowlet. Greninja and Pikachu are both too powerful to take her on yet, unless somehow she's gotten strong before coming to Alola." Pikachu seemed disappointed to not be able to battle Bonnie right now. Ash was planning on what to say before I interrupted, "Hey, what about you and I have a battle where Greninja and Pikachu get some battle time?" Pikachu instantly perked up and jumped from Ash's shoulder to mine and began nuzzling my neck. It tickled and I laughed loudly as Pikachu perched himself on me. "Serena? What Pokémon will you use though? Pikachu and Greninja are overpowering you." I thought about it for a moment. I turned my head to look at Gardevoir, "Gardevoir, will you help me battle Ash? It could be a really great experience for the both of us. I never battled much and I'd like to have my first Alolan battle with you." Gardevoir looked to me, nodded, and smiled with a "Gard" in response. "I guess that settles it then! We'll have our battle after I battle Bonnie, Okay?" I replied to Ash with a nod.
I felt a tug on my arm as we arrived at the Pokémon center. It was Gardevoir, trying to get my attention. I told Ash I'd meet him inside and to go find Bonnie and Clemont. I spoke to Gardevoir, "Is something wrong, Gardevoir?" She shook her head but held her hand out to me. In it, was some sort of crystal. I remember seeing this. Diantha's Gardevoir had one when she battled Ash. "You have a mega-stone, Gardevoir? Did your previous trainer abuse the power of the bond they had with you" She nodded, I could see her eyes watering up almost like she were about to cry. I hugged her, "Hey, don't cry. I know we just met and you probably don't trust me yet, but I wouldn't do that. We're partners. We help one another, not use each other. I'm sorry your last trainer hurt you." I pulled back from the hug and gently took the mega stone from Gardevoir and held it up, " We'll keep this someplace safe until we're both ready to use it, Okay?" I received a nod and once again, she started to cling to me. She must be really shaken up from her previous trainer. Yet, she trusts me enough to stay near me. Sometimes I wish Pokémon could speak so that we could easily understand each other. I took Gardevoir's hand and we walked inside the Pokémon center and around back to where the battlefield typically is. I'm ready to show her just how much I am ready to commit to be her partner and trainer!
