Chapter 12: Perfect

It has been about a month since I had seen Christian at the orphanage. Turns out he is only a few doors down from me. And yes, it is kind of awkward passing him, but it's not like we broke up, I just said I needed a little space, which kind of is breaking up. But now, I don't know if I need anymore space. I think I'm ready to go back to how things were originally. I just don't know if Christian wants to.

On the bright side, it's the last two weeks of school. There's a dance on Friday, but I don't know if I'm going. The last time I went to a dance, well... I met Christian which was probably one of the best things ever.

Anyways, I have also been going to church every Sunday and I have alter served once or twice a month. I really enjoy it. I get to push away from everything, even just for an hour. The only problem is, Lacy goes to church with her family.

"Scooter, come on! Breakfast is ready." Cleo opened the door and motioned for me to follow her out of the room. I slowly dragged my feet down the stairs and I to the kitchen. I just wanted school to end so I could forget about all of the worries.

When I entered there were a few fits of muffled laughter. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention, I got glasses last week! Yay! *note the sarcasm*

Cleo came with me and unfortunately, she told me that the big, black framed 'nerd glasses' looked good on me. Surprisingly, they actually kind of did, so I got them. Now I'm even that much more geek.

I could see Christian across the room as I munched on my uncooked bacon. He seemed shockingly happy today. Lately, every time I made eye contact with him he would be full of sadness and misery. Something must be up.

I finished my breakfast and headed out to school. I had arrived at the school when the marching band emerged from the school playing loudly on their instruments. Following out behind was Christian.

His hair was spiked at the front as usual, and he wore a pair of beige shorts with a nice white tee tucked in. He dressed fancy, and for some reason that made me feel special.

When Christian got to me, he pointed to the ground and I gasped. Written with yellow and white flowers was "Scooter, will you go to the dance with me?"

Christian did make me feel special, and I realize now, that a month ago, he was just being a good boyfriend, that's all he ever wanted for me. He wasn't treating me like I was helpless at all, he was treating me the way I wanted to be treated and that's why he was so confused and upset.

I hugged him tighter than I have ever hugged anything before. "Thank you." I whispered into his ear.

I looked him in the eyes, and he stared deep I to mine. "You're very welcome, Scooter."

He leaned in and kissed my cheek and we walked into the school, hand in hand, like I always wanted it to be.

Science was over and Christian and I headed into the halls. We only got a few meters out of the classroom when he had to go the other direction to his locker.

"Bye!" I hugged him. "See you at lunch."

He nodded and I watched him head away. Then came the staircase.

Lacy and Ray were talking near the bottom and Tyler was flirting with Daphne about half way. I reached the last few steps without any interruptions, but Lacy jumped in my way.
