Hey guys. So I'm trying to update more because my teacher put a due date on the story and I need to finish it soon. I'm working more on it, and I hope you enjoy! :)

Chapter 16: The Last One

I found myself walking fast as I neared the park, realizing it was still only one o'clock. Christian wouldn't be there yet, so I decided to wander around and look at the stores close by for a few minutes.

I ended up getting stuck looking at some really neat shirts and didn't have enough time for another store, so I just headed back to the park.

The chip truck was a bit father into the public playground, and I took my time roaming down the stone path that lead to the centre of everything. There was actually a monument somewhere in the park that was measured to be exactly the centre of town.

I saw the chip truck and could make out the tall, handsome figure of Christian on one of the picnic tables. He waved to me and I skipped over.

He smiled and I couldn't help but smile at how cute he looked: plaid shorts with a baseball tank top.

"Hey beautiful." He flirted as he lifted me up and spun me around. I giggled and he finally put me down.

"Hey, how's it going?" I fixed my hair and sat down across from him.

"Great," he replied as he pulled out a small white box from his back pocket and handed it to me.

I gasped, "what's this for?" Did I forget something? Was I supposed to bring a gift? What kind of girlfriend am I?

"Today, four months is the first day I met you." He said, pulling out the French fries he ordered from the chip truck. They looked good and I realized I was hungry, and I decided to buy lunch after talking with Christian.

I stared across at him, adoring his kindness. "I'm sorry." Guiltily, I twiddled my thumbs. "I didn't remember that, and for some reason, it doesn't feel like four months."

"That's because it hasn't been that long. It's been four months since I first saw you rush down the hall to class because you weren't as early as normal. The first time I saw you at a baseball game. The first time I saw Brogan and Lacy bug you on the staircase. Scooter, that was one of the best days of my life." His face began to redden and I couldn't help but blush.

It felt weird to have someone compliment you. I wasn't used to someone liking me, someone that I liked back. I took the box and thanked him over and over again.

I opened the box to reveal a beautiful brown bracelet. It was braided and had an infinity sign tied in it. On the silver was carved, best friends in gold. There was one gold bead on each end of the infinity sign and there was a magnetic part to do the bracelet up.

"Christian, I love it! Like, literally, it is one of the prettiest things I own! Actually, it probably is." I leaned over and kissed his cheek gently.

"Now," he stood up, "let's go get you some lunch."

"Thanks so much, Christian. I had a really great time and it's good to be spending time with you, even after me messing things up at that dance." I avoided eye contact, but Christian rubbed my back, comforting me.

We headed back to the orphanage, the sun burning the back of my neck. I was sweating and realized that this had been one of longest, hottest summers I have lived through. It was still only June. Oh, and there was one week of school left!

"Scooter," he paused, "what are we gonna do if we get separated, or something?"

"What do you mean? If one of us gets adopted?" I asked holding his hand.
