Hello, guys. So, I hope you're enjoying my story so far and keep reading! I figured out what's going to happen the rest of the way now, so hopefully I don't take too long to update. :)

Chapter 17: Springcreek

Oh.

My.

God.

No. No. No. But at the same time, yes! I could be with him, but as a family? What now?

I couldn't see Christian from here, but I could almost feel the intensity in the lobby. Almost everyone in the orphanage knew that we were dating, and I felt all eyes on me, maybe a few pairs on Christian at the other end of the line.

"Christian." I whispered, running over to him. He was staring blankly at something only he could see. "Christian." I repeated. He finally turned to look at me, and couldn't tell what he was thinking.

"Scooter, what are we going to do?" He asked, sitting on one of the steps. He rested his head on his hands, and I sat down beside him.

I sighed, "I don't know."

I heard Jane's heels walk towards us, but I didn't look up. She was probably angry that we weren't acting grateful that we were chosen to join this lovely family.

"Well, it seems you two aren't interested in this new, better life." I saw Jane turn back to

Ms. Henderson. "I apologize, Ma'am, it seems these two haven't learned any manners." She gave us a stern glare.

Ms. Henderson shook her head understandingly. "No, no. They are very polite young people, but it's obvious there's something going on between them. Maybe I've made a mistake-"

"No!" Christian stood up. What? "There's no mistake here, miss. Scooter is one of the best people I've ever met, and she deserves a great home. She should go with you."

A tear rolled down my cheek, and Christian wiped it away. "Christian, I'm not leaving without you." I sobbed.

"So, you'd rather be my sister?" He demanded helping me to my feet, and I nodded. "Anything to be with you. We could spend a lot of time together, maybe not in the way we used to, but at least we won't be hours apart. I'm not going by myself."

There was an eerie silence and Ms. Henderson placed a hand on both of our shoulders. "It's up to you. I would love to have you both as a part of my family, but if it's uncomfortable, and too hard, then that's okay with me."

I thanked the lady with my smile and eyes. She understood. After a moment of thinking, I turned, not to the lady, but to Christian. "I am willing to be your sister, only if we spend time together. Maybe this is easier. Maybe we shouldn't date."

There was aloud gasp and I winced as I realized that I had sort of, kind of, just broken up with someone I never wanted to be separated from. And even though, in a way, we had just grown closer, I felt farther from him.

"What? So, you think we could be siblings?" He seemed just as upset about this as I was. I would miss him, as more than a friend. But it's right for the both of us. We finally got adopted, and we might not get another chance like this.

Finally, he nodded and Jane smiled. "So, Ms. H, you can come tomorrow to pick them up. And you two," she turned to us, "will be packed and ready by noon. Got it? Good. You're dismissed."

Everyone filed up the stairs, quiet murmurs sounded through the halls. I watched as Cleo was silent, going to our room. I followed her in. "Cleo." I said, clicking the door shut behind. "Cleo," I repeated when she didn't reply.
