"Follow me, Luna."
I looked at Delta Stan. Well, Alpha Stan now. Stan led me into the new pack house, his hand on the small of my back as I waddled into the house. LillyAnn followed with ten and a half month old Cole in her arms.
"I'm not Luna anymore, Alpha Stan," I whispered.
"Yes, you are, Luna. Alpha Jess's body hasn't been found. Neither have Beta Christopher or Gamma Andrew's bodies or several of our warriors's bodies."
Stan was stubbornly believing that the missing pack members were still alive. I wasn't. It was hard to think about that when they have been missing for almost three months.
"They aren't around, Alpha Stan. They haven't come back! No one knows where they are!" I cried out, sitting myself down on the new couch.
I was tired, this baby was nearly killing me. I was in pain all of the time. Constantly. I thought that a shorter pregnancy meant less pain. I was wrong. Oh so very wrong.
Maybe it was me missing my mate that caused most of this pain.
"Luna..." Stan kneeled down in front of me. "If they were dead, you would not be able to survive. Their mates won't survive their deaths. Many mated females with missing mates are still alive, that is a good thing. They will be found, I assure you, my Luna." Stan rubbed my large stomach.
The baby kicked harshly against Stan's hand.
"We will find them, Luna. I promise you that. I will never give up. We will find them. Our trackers are on it. Hell, we even have most of the country looking for our Alpha and missing men!" Stan looked up at me. "We will find him. We will. I will not give up on my Alpha and I will not give up on you."
Stan was determined to find my mate, my love. But I had to be Miss Debby Downer and think realistically. It was all that I could do.
Jess, Christopher, and Andrew were gone. Nearly half of the pack warriors were either dead or missing. The pack had been completely destroyed, thanks to the multiple bombs that the government had dropped on us.
I had no idea why the government was trying to kill us off, well my pack off. We weren't doing anything wrong. The wolves here were able to blend in with others easily. There wasn't a single one of us who was a threat to anyone else.
"Luna..." Stan could tell that I didn't believe him. "We will find them."
"Momma!" I turned my attention from Stan and his useless promises and looked at my son.
Cole was walking, with the help of LillyAnn, towards me. He was smiling so big, showing his four little baby teeth that were popping out of his gums.
"Hey, baby boy." Stan moved out of the way and sat on the couch beside me.
I grunted as I leaned down, holding my arms out for my son.
"Luna, be careful..." Stan was so over protective. "Don't over do it. You are due any moment now."
I rolled my eyes and picked my son up, grunting again as I put him on my lap.
"Big!" Cole not so gently pat my stomach. I gently took his hand and placed it where the baby was kicking again. "Big!"
